shortening F250 D44

My rear Dodge D60 measures aprox 65" WMS-WMS. I bought a HP D44 housing from a '79 F250 with leaf perches and I was told that it has a width of 69".

So to get a closer match I'm considering cutting the long side of the D44 down to use a Waggy shaft. Anyone know how much shorter a Waggy shaft is? I thought that I read somewhere that this would make the diff 61" in width. That's a bit more narrow than I want. This may have been cutting down both sides though.

How critical is it to line the pinion up with the output of the t-case? How much offset is acceptable? Thanx!
