Removing Crankshaft with Engine Installed

I did several searches and could not come up with a definitive answer...

Is it possible to remove the crankshaft with the engine installed?

If so, does the transmission need to be removed first?

only if you have a manual tranny

Yes you can remove the crankshaft from the engine while the engine is in the vehicle.. But you will have to remove the transmission, and flywheel first... Seems like a lot of work, almost faster to just pull the engine.
