np231

anyone know if a 97 TJ np231 will bolt up to a 89 Xj ?

and what issues might we have doing it sensors and such ?

I believe that the biggest problem you are facing here is the spline count. Your '89 should have a 21 spline tranny output shaft whereas the 97 will have a 23.

Now, you can swap the input gear from your old case to the new case, but that requires a complete teardown of the case.

thanks other then that no prob we think ?

mine has a new chain and the slip yoke elimanator so tear down wont be a issue

reason i want to change it is the 97 has 200k less miles on it lol

you might have some issue with the speedo mechanism. I think on the older ones it was powered by a speedo cable while the 97 might be elctronic- may want to check if they are swapable.

I know that in the XJ, the t-case went to electronic speedo in '92-3. I found this out the hard way when I bought an AX-15 out of a '91 to put into a '93. The pilot shaft was of different diameter, as well as the speedo mechanism. :(

good infos stuff me didnt know for sure P

but parts between the two should swap?it sounds like

cus i need to swap chains and yoke eliminator anyway
