Kim Komando (radio talk show host) lists a great pop-up blocker by panicware on her web site. I've have it loaded on my work pc and it has caught 100% of all pop-ups. Best of all - it's free.
Look for the link at the bottom of the page:

I highly recommend that you get a good "internet cleaner" program. They're available from lots of sources, try this link for more info: http://www.cexx.org/adware.htm
That page has instructions on how to turn of the messenger service and has links to a good free adware/spyware killer named Spybot Search & Destroy (also found at http://security.kolla.de/)
The reason you keep getting the popups may be because the offending site has installed spyware/adware on your computer. Popup blockers may stop the symptom temporarily but won't cure the disease. Most of the cleaning programs have a try-before-you-buy option so you can test their effectiveness on your machine.

AOL Sucks and that is IMHO. Thir bln`ker works except for when H'm .f a Jeep site and it blocks the pop-up images of the parts I'm looking at!

Ghost, you can choose what sites that you want to block pop ups on with AOL 8.0s blocker...just click on the 'Blocking Pop-ups from this site' button and choose your settings.
