View Full Version : Which part of your XJ is a guaranteed rock magnet?

For me it seems to be the right front towhook :) Each time I pound that bracket into shape (kind of) I seem to catch it on the next outing no matter how careful I am about it......

So how about the rest of you? Does anyone else sem to have a "favourite magnet"?

Not too many rocks where I wheel but the right hand lower control arm bracket is a stump magnet, it just digs deeply into at least one tree stump almost every ride.

A week after I got my ARB bull bar, I was trying to avoid a 3ft+ rock when I hit some loose dirt and slid right into it. I put a big dent right where the winch mount is located. Luckily though, I had not installed the winch yet, or it might be toast.

Actually, my rig seems to be more of a branch magnet than a rock magnet. There are many tight trails in Colorado and I seem to keep scratching the sides.

Left rear quarter panel. The BPI rear bumper and corner plates will help a little, I hope. Front right control arm mount on axle seems to have some altered polarity as well.

my doors, specifically, driver side doors, I try to use my rock rails to piviot around things and it doesn't always work.

Oh well, I don't have a straight body panel on my Jeep, roof included, that's what makes it cool.

What's all this about control arms, crossmembers, bumpers, etc., that stuff's there to hit the rocks. :D

For me it's doors. I have a brand new paint job, done in Jan. I dinged one door and rear quarter panel, got that repainted in April. Now, all four doors have dents and scratches. I used to be more careful than that.........what's happened? :D

Those pesky rear shock brackets, which are soon to become victims to the fire wrench.

Ain't them XJ body lifts a PITA. The armor on the belly has seemed to reverse the charge on everything but the front diff.
It has been pointed out though that I seem to be building a magnetic charge at the rockers. Best get my butt in gear and install them there de-mag rails thats been keeping the garage floor safe.

My big problem as of late is that the last couple of trails that Ethan drove has been them XJ magnets thats been hiding in the Mansanita!

Kejtar

TBent... time to install those rails :) To motivate you... unless something drastically changes, I should be free on SUnday to help you out with that :) :) :) (Of course we would test them right after LOL)

Don't you just love it when some one just soaks your butt in gasoline? then starts flicking matches at it ? LOL
Light a fire under my butt will ya! LOL Hope to have them on by then, Ethan's been threatening me too. I'll keep you posted though, my luck is wearing mighty THIN.

Remi, Remember X Treme XJ's front hook set up? they set up a bit higher, and it seemed that they were more out of the way. I think that he cut down and re-drilled some late model GMC hooks. Much better then the oem fangs. IMO

TBent... I keep remembering those towhooks.. but... I have a feeling that if I did that I would loose the factory fogs... :( I need to do something about both of those at the same time.

Also today couple hours ago I finished repainting (not for looks but rust protection) the rear quarter panel on the passengers side.... it's tweaked and looks like a rock started a fold for me already LOL
