trans control

i recently rolled my 87 xj laredo (this being the second time i've totaled it) i was following a left turn on a gravel road and lost control as the transmision made a hard downshift into 1st gear. i now have a base model 88 xj and would like to know if anyone knows of a way to prevent this from hapening again.

I do plan to do this myself as well... I want to build it into a series of switches that lets the tcu do it most of the time, but gives me selection when in 1-2 gear.
