I have a complete 91 Dana 30 axle from a done rig. Should I replace my 87's for the 91? Is it a stronger setup? I want to know before I instal my lift.

I would say yes because the '91 is a high pinion d30 (stronger than the low pinion 30 which i believe were in the 87s). That's my .02. Good luck, and if you end up with a spare passenger axle shaft (inner/outer) i am in dier need of one, so pm me if you can let it go.
Thanks,
Christian

I think they were all hi-pinion back in the day (unclear on the CV axled 84-86 Limiteds)
If the gear ratios are matching, I'd go by which one is in the best shape... if both are needing attention, it may be easier to wrench on the one NOT in the Jeep... UCA bushings, ball joints, hubs & axes - gears?- etc all much easier when the axe is out from under. OTOH if the new lift doesn't involve replacing control arms, and the existing axle/steering is good, I'd leave the old 30 installed.
If you have a vacuum-shifted axle (that you want to retain function of) make sure those parts are on the 91...somewhere around 91-92? Jeep did away with the vacuum axle altogether. The 4WD system would still work as before though.

The only difference is the front hub offset and rotor difference - 90 was the change over year. If they are both in the same condition ther is no advantage to changing.

87 calipers wont work on the 91 axle.
