In my continued search for cool parts in the local junk yards I found a complete 1978 Ford F150 Ranger, 400, C6, NP205, 9" Rear, and radius arm D44 Front. It is a running truck. It is rough cosmeticly but it apparently drives. They are asking $700.

I believe this is what alot of guys here have used for full width axle setups. I do have some questions regarding this kind of swap:

Can you run the stock 5 link front suspension?
Is this overkill for 33" tires?

Does this seem like a good deal? I could also get my hands on a set of F250 axles with the leaf sprung D44 8 lug front axle and I think its a D60 rear but I didn't look closely.

Could I swap the 8 lug axle to the 5 lugs off the F150 axle so that I wouldn't have to mess with the cast radius arm mounts and run the stock 5 link on the F250 D44 with 5X5.5?

The question is why you want to run the stock 5 link?

Because I just spent more on my lift kit than I would on the whole F150.

9" isnt all that much ground clearance loss. IMHO

dude, I would go for it if I had the money, but as far as the 5 link goes.... well, I would weigh the option of something else. If you are only running 33's it will save you in the future from potential breaks, and if you want to move up in size, then you don't have to worry about that.
