T-Case Swap ZJ to XJ

is there anything that would prohibit a t-case swap,
FROM a ZJ to a XJ?

Theres a possibility for a '94 ZJ parts jeep to be available and I want the transfer case, it could be a 231,242,or a 249.
Is there any differences in the input shaft?
I understand this is a transition year for the zj.
What should I look out for?

personallly i wouldnt go for it, if it has the 249. 242-OK, if its the 231-great. Also check input splines.

The money is right $0 so thats why im looking into it.

I somewhat remember something about input shaft length, but it may have been a dream or for someother vehicle.

but, will a 231 input shaft fit a 242? if it even comes to having a 242 instead of 231

Yes, 242 and 231's share input shaft compatibility, so you could swap your existing input shaft into a 242 and know it will work (I just did a swap and know from experience they are interchageable...)
