how many of ya'll have had to explain to people that what you do to ur rig is not a waste of money...? we've all heard that building cars is a poor investment... but what if building is ur passion, hobby, passtime? its not a waste of $$$ then. i would never tell anyone else that fishing, sports, or knitting was a waste of $$$ and time! whats with people not understanding us? i frequently come across this debate with coworkers, and fellow peers. everytime i have to explain to them that, " 4x4ing is the only thing in my life that can scare the $H!t out of me... and when i get back home, i can't wait to do it again!. i love being in the outdoors, and discovering new terrain!"

What is really great is when ricers will tell you that you are waisting your money by building your rig. It makes me want to hit them.

What's the big deal? Of course you're wasting your money. :D
Hobbies are a waste of money, if people don't put value in doing something that you enjoy, and if money should only be spent on what will get you ahead in life financially. But that would mean that most people waste a ton of money going out to eat all the time rather than cooking at home, and the list can go on and on and on......

sounds like those people (coworkers and such) just don't enjoy the same things you do. don't sweat it. besides piece of mind from a built rig is worth its weight in gold...IMHO

a lot of my friends feel the same way, but my mom is by far the worst. I can't buy anything without her saying, "Ryan you know you are just throwing your money away into that Jeep". But then she goes and buys new chairs and drapes that cost more than my Jeep. It drives me insane sometimes.

I've heard the same thing about my R/C's (one of whom is smoking a cigarette at the same time). I even knew one guy who had co-workers hound him about how he could spend $300 on an R/C car, but would drop that much each weekend in the local bar(s) and just have a hangover to show for it (not too sure if he ever told them that, but......)

wasted would mean that absolutely NO god came from the expense....
if you like it DO IT!!! i work in an "urban" neighborhood and get all kinda of silly looks when i drive the trail rig to work... i guess if the ricers like what they do i don't have any reason to judge them.. nor they , me... i refuse to itemize what i spend on the "jeep thing".... i'd probably sell them and buy a house or something with all the money saved...

I get the same remarks from most of my friends and even my family. Which doesn't make sense to me since every person in my family drives Jeeps! :D
And I have the easy solution to the ricers making comments. Just show them what your rig can do! Most lowered cars make GREAT RTI ramps! Or in my case, use the low end of your 4.0 and a heavy right foot to show them some real acceleration! I had a guy on the highway that had been stuck behind me go past me calling me #1....There was a great look on his face when seconds later I was on the other side of him, going MUCH faster than him, with both my passengers calling him the same. Not quite the mature thing to do, I know, but it was great when his car back fired when he tried to speed up to follow me.....

but what gets me the most it when someone says wow your jeep sits way below that f350, why even lift it. I get speechless and just walk away. Then i come back and say I bet that truck coulndt go near anywhere i have been.
Speakin of wasting money, I thnk i want to lift myt jeep another couple inches, do i get permission from you guys or do i need to save my money for a big truck and shut people up

Only one ever comments on how much money I spend on my jeep is my wife
Funny though....Since she started scrap booking I haven't heard a peep....THAT stuff...Pound for pound makes lockers, gears and axles look cheap.

Oh no, not you to! I thought I was the only one with a scrapbooking wife. I really don't understand the concept, I just know you have to buy it in wheelborrow loads.lol

my parents and most of the kids in my school say that im wasting my money also (still in H.S.)...but the funny part is, i raced a kid that had a Eagle Talon with tons of motor work done to it, and i smoked his a$$ with 30's on my jeep. haha that shut most of the ricers up in my school

It's a hobby. Some people go to the movies a lot, or eat out constantly. Women often collect trinkets, china, buy expensive clothing...
How about women who buy jewlery, or name brand purses and bags...etc.
I buy my clothes from Bass Pro and Wal-Mart pretty much. The Bass Pro shirt I'm wearing right now was $3.88 and it's just a simple logo t-shirt. I skimp money most places and I do almost everything on the Jeep cheaply because I do it myself. Whether its welding the spacers or finding good nearly new tires for sale.
I can't say the Jeep has been a money pit.

To a lot of people spending tons of time and money on a jeep and then beating the piss out of it doesn't seem logical. Who cares how you waste youre money? I spend most of my money on my jeep, tabbaco and beer, I would have a lot more money without them but then I wouldn't enjoy life as much.

Mine now are, had some little SOB knock the back window out of my XJ and steal my Nitro Stampede and Electric Bolink Legends car :bawl: They also got a couple of car stereos from a restaurant down the road from the hobby shop I work at from what the cop told me. :flamemad:
