This is without doubt, the worst night of my 20th year. LOL Anyways, im on my way home from my g/f's b-day party, get a call from dad "your brother crashed at teh bottome of "the hill", come help" I get there, truck is totalled...regardless, i pull onto the side of the road and start helping the firefighters and cops and what not clean up and then the tow truck got there..i brought my bro home, 2 min. later got a call from dad b/c he needed the keys for the towtruck driver, i get them from my bro and head back to the scene....idleing for about 7 min. while the towtruck is pulling my bro's truck up..i get back into my jeep to head back home, my f*ckin transmission light is on. I just did the tranny flush last week when i posted about how much of an improvement i've felt...the ride home was about 5 min. and the whole time it shifted just like normal. I'm going out to check the fluid now but the other question i had was is the tranny symbol on the guage cluster also for the t-case, b/c i knwo the a**hole that installed my sye did it wrong b/c i have a leak from the rear seal of the SYE. Linked to my other post about the burning smell i smell after the lift and sye install. the leak was spraying onto my exhaust while driving. Any thoughts?? any help greatly appreciated as i cant come close to affording a new tranny.

i hope your brother is ok. and as for the light..im not quite sure, have you checked the fluid level yet? and if the guy screwed up the sye cant you get him to fix it?

Make the chicken FOCKER that screwed it up pay for it... I'm a mechanic and if i scew something up not only do i have to take it apart and fix it for free but i also have to pay for the part/parts.

So far so good w/ my bro, thanks...he had 3 of his buddies in the truck w/ him, i'm just hopping they just dont develop a "back and neck pain" tomorrow. As for my jeep...yea i called him earlier today b/c i knew about the sye leak from day one, i just though b/c it was such a small drip it wouldnt matter, it goes back to him on tuesday of next week. I dont intend on paying this guy a penny...ever again. Heres the best part...he's a jeep specialist!!!! This is the same guy that ordered me the wrong parts, charged me full price, and made me wait for an extra week while he 5 day fed exed the correct part. (this is why i'm soooo pissed, the guy is a "performance jeep specialist" and he's ordered wrong parts and installed an SYE the wrong way apparently) Thanks for the reply's keep em coming if you guys have any thoughts on my tranny light, if it is b/c of the SYE or not. Thanks.

Drove to work today about 6 miles...tranny still shifting like normal. Wtf is the deal w/ this tranny light?? Anyone have any ideas?

Based on that, although I won't mention any names, I'm 99% certain that I know who you're talking about. His shop generally has enjoyed a very good reputation, but recently I've been hearing some not-so-wonderful reports. We are talking about a shop in a shoreline town between New Haven and Bridgeport, correct?

Glad to hear everyone seems to be okay. Let's hope they stay that way.

My 2001 xj with NP231 (Now tera low 4:1) does not communicate with the computer. Only light on the cluster that indicates T-case condition is the 4WD light. and then only if the plunger inside the T-case makes contact and the switch works.
As to the leak. When it stops, it's time to fill it up. :spin1:

Yea you hit it head on...whats the deal, are they starting to slip up or what? I'm bringing it back there on tuesday to have him fix the leak but from day one it just seemed like he didnt want to have anything to do w/ me or my jeep. I dont know who else to bring it to though. Do you do all your own work? I'll pay ya comparable to what i'm paying him if you want to do it for me LOL

yeah, i don't recall the tc being linked to the tranny electrics... did you flush ur tranny fluid yourself or at a shop? i'd check fluid level and go from there.

HTH
Brandon
PS, i know how ya feel when it comes to "Jeep specialists"... lol. i don't trust anyone with my jeep anymore; even when it comes to tightening down bolts.

Yea i brought it to a shop and paid 120 bux for the flush....checked the fluid level...full, and still a nice clean deep red color...dex III used as recommended. I'm going to check my t-case fluid as i know for sure that i have a leak in there but never thought it was enough to drain that low...what else would make a tranny light go on? Its still shifting smooth as new.

ok...checked t-case fluid...clean and full...so now i have a full t-case and tranny, shifting smooth as new...yet my tranny light is on...any ideas??? Do i have to bring it to the stealership to get this light diagnosed?

seriously, i'd take it back to the shop and just tell them, "hey, after ya'll worked on my XJ the tranny light came on... whats up with that?"

There is no input from the transfer case!Try re-setting the computer to see if it will clear!

i thought about that, but if it came on, didnt it come on for a reason, i dont want to just "hide" the problem temporarily and then have it come back and bite me in the rear 10 times more expensive than it might be now. Thanks for the thoughts though, and i'm deff. gonna link this to the poor service i've been getting from this bum. Thanks again.

2000 XJ 3.5" RE superflex 31x10.50 FOR SALE lol i cant take this sh*t anymore, i have enough stuff to fix and replace on my camaro during the race season. i'm seriously considering selling this jeep if i keep getting problems...now i have an oil pressure question as well as why my tranny light is on. Last week i was driving home from work, suddenly oil pressure is pinned at 80....couldnt figure out why so i shut off the jeep...restart..and its completely normal...just hit 3000miles so i changed the oil and since then, i've been running at around 50 even at an idle and it pinned at 80 the other day again...shut it down, restarded and it was normal...normally my oil pressure is at around 25 or 30 when i'm at and idle and then while driving its right ontop of 40...why am i at 50 now even at an idle and why does it keep pinning randomly at 80 and then going back to normal when i shut down and then restart. Finally i have to vent a little...WHY DOES ALL THIS CRAP HAVE TO HAPPEN AFTER I INVEST THE MONEY INTO LIFT AND TIRES AND D/S AND SYE!!!AHHHHHHH.

The oil sender will peg to max if it is disconnected or has a bad circuit to the block (ground). Disconnect the sender wire, pull the sender and clean the connection and threaded body. Don't use plumber's tape or anything else on the threads. Reinstall, making sure that the sender wire has a solid connection to the sender.

ok, i'll try that as soon as i figure out where this sender and wire is. Thanks for the input

Sender looks like this:
oilsender.jpg

It's located along the side of the block, above the oil filter.
