Full width mounting

Well its getting about that time... planning on doing a swap soon. Anyhow, as far as suspension goes... I was considering getting the clayton hard arm kit and some longer leafs for the rear. As for the axles... I was wondering how to go about mounting them... could I essentually just weld the brackets on so they are in essence the same width apart as the sock axle mounts? that way i'd be able to just bolt them right onto the suspension i have thats designed to bolt to the stock axles. Only thing Im really wondering about would that be putting too much of a moment on the axle tubes?

How did you all go about deciding where to place the mounts on your axles?
