tow hitch

I have no tow hitch or tow anything in the rear, is it ok to mount a regular tow hitch (only the tow hitch) with no sorts of brackets or anything and still be ok?

i think the reason that 20 people have read your question, but not responded, it because they probably didn't know what your were talking about.

ok, what do you mean, by "only a tow hitch" with no brackets?

do you mean a receiver? (either a 1.5" or 2" square opening where you would mount a hitch?)

if you dont have any brackets, how do you mount something??

no, you would need the side brackets that straddle the gas tank. Maybe if you have an aftermarket bumper simialr to old explorers or some pickups where they just have the ball mounted on that part that is horizontal under the license plate it would be ok with small loads. Id say rule of thumb is.. its an XJ with a unibody, dont ever mount anything on it without some sort of bracket.
