I love the spool in my ford 9" but it is a mini-spool. Do you guys know if that mini-spool will hold up to the 35" tires I am going to put on it or should I put in a full spool? Just want to make sure.

I'm running a mini spool in my 44 with 35in SSRs with noproblems yet. I've broke the drive shaft already but thats it.

Having spent more than my fair share of time at the drag strip, I have seen several drag cars running a mini spool with no problems. I would imagine a drag car running slicks 22.5 wide would be a pretty good work out for one. I would think you should be fine.:D

you could upgrade to a 35 spline Mark Williams full spool and convert to 35 spline shafts if you ever have problems with the mini spool, but only if you have the big bearing 9". My friend has a mini spool in his Ford 8.8 with 35's and doesn't have a problem and it has survived 2 moab trips so I think you will be fine.
BTW I just swaped a 9" in my XJ and I love it!

A buddy that I wheel with broke his mini spool, but then again he was running 38's on his bronco with a 351. That might have something to do with it....

Yeah, Nate's minispool and 35's combo has held up much better then I would have expected. Good enough for me to do the same thing.

Xenodank,
Hows that d30 holding up? What mods have you done to it? Just wanted to know, I had a thread asking about the d30 and 35" tires you have gone A Little past that. :) Also my 9" is a Currie unit with High Alloy 31 spline shafts. I have had the axle for along time. Got it from my friend Rob He ran it for years with a detroit in it. So hearing from you guys I think it will be fine. By the way NICE JEEP.

I run 38.5 SX's on a pretty heavy rig ~5000lbs and use OEM ford van 31 spline axle shafts with a mini spool - never had any problems at all....
I even shaved the housing - 1/4" more GC than my old D-35!

Best $15 locker I ever bought!
