Replacing the hatch struts

on my '98 with NAPA/Balkamp units will be the high point of my weekend. No more slamming the top of my head, seriously, here on Long Island with the cold, the final time I thought they were gonna hold for a few more seconds but the hatch dropped and instead of my neck giving way in either direction it remained vertical and I think I compressed a cervical something or other. The best $69 I ever spent.

But, has anyone installed struts on the hood?

I'm figuring it's just a matter of measuring the length of the prop rod, and finding a pair of which the body is slightly longer than half the length of the rod.

Does this make sense?

Go-Jeep's done it (along with just about any mod you can think of). Its about halfway down on this page. He's an Aussie, so he calls it a "Bonnet Gas Strut".
