Temperture Gauge

It's cold and snowy here in central Virginia. I have a couple of questions on how to read the temperture gauge. What temperture is the optimium for the 4.0 Liter? Mine is a 1990.

The gauge starts at 100 and then a line then then 210 a line then 260.

Mine seems to be running cool. (per the gauge) It never get to the first line, so that would be less than 150 degrees.

What should it be, like half way between the first line and 210 or 180 degrees?

The scale isn't linear, so the lines represent 100->165->210->240->260. Your engine's still running cool in any event; it should at least reach 165 so it's likely that your t'stat is stuck open especially if the heater isn't producing much warm air.
