What is the idle speed supposed to be on a 1989 Jep Cherokee?

Mine is running at:

1000 RPM Startup
1200 RPM Warmed up
Back to 1000 in gear and the brake applyed

I am not sure but I thought more like 600-700 sounded like a better RPM.
I have tried everything to get it down but to no avail.

Cleaned trottle body
New cold air intake
Adjusted the TPS 4.62/.81 volts
Cleaned the IAC
Cleasned the EGR valve
Found the EGR sloeinoid bad (replaced)
Found the EGR transducer bad (replaced)
Checked all vaccum line
Check CCV

Anything else I should try or is this a norm and should I be happy with it?

did you check to make sure all of your intake manifold bolts are tight? A loose one will allow some air into the system causing the computer to raise the idle.

Just fixed this very problem on mine . . .

& check all your vac. lines, (MAP, EGR, etc), they are generally kinda loose in older xj's & can also crack easily.

I went to check the manifold bolts to see if there was a leak but they were all tight. Started to trace once again all vaccum lines. They to were all tight. So Ok what was it? I decided while I was under the hood I would pull off the rubber air intake tube to check and see if the IAC was working and it was but I accidently pushed the trottle plate in the wrong direction (closed) and immeditately the RPM's dropped. So I check it further and found it was not closing completely. I then found on the back of the carb an adjustment screw that allowed me to close it. Problem solved. I don't know why I did not see it 3 days ago. Now it idles at 600 RPM's just what it should be at. I said to myself, self DUH. Anyway thanks for all the suggestions. Maybe something all the high idler's should check.
