Could be a clogged Cat! Happened to a freind of mines CJ, kept lossing power but ran nice and smooth other than that. I think you can burn up a motor if you drive like this very much.

If itīs running that bad, you should be throwing some kind of codes. Did you do the key check and see what stored codes you have?

For what it's worth, we've found that 9 times out of 10 something caused the converter to melt. Usually from running rich. If you did melt the cat, check out the engine performance stuff so you don't kill the new one.

Mine does the same thing after going thru water or mud. I think its just a sensor of some sort because it always goes away (like the sensor dries up or something if thats possible) and my cat is relatively new.

late model jeep cats typically go around 100k miles but they can break internally if you hit it alot of the rocks. simple diag of the problem, unbolt the cat and loosen the pipe just enough so the exhaust gas won't have the enter the cat. drive the jeep, if it drives fine (except for the noise of course) the cat is clogged, if not then you have other problems

Mine will do this every once in a while when wheeling. It is the same speed too, 45 mph. Someone told me it was a limp mode that the computer puts the vehicle in if something isn't right. Mine always went away after sitting overnight. It seems to reset. More than likely it is a sensor. Don't go and change your cat without doing some testing. It could be a big waste of money.
