Want some good coffee, go here www.cafecampesino.com or www.arborday.org
The Arbor Day coffee compares favorably with Jamaica Blue Mountain, IMHO

Woops, seems the arborday site is experiencing difficulties, but that is the correct link - try later

Starbucks is a scam...Coffee Been is a little bit better...but still not so great. I just get the "premium" beans at the grocery store, better than Starbuck's and cheaper.

I don't know what it is, but the coffee in Europe was WAY better than anything you can lay your hands on around here. I have some guys from France that come over every once in a while and they get a kick out of our "French Roast"

As a sideline......How do you know when you have had just enough caffeine? Its when you have to remember to blink. :laugh3:

No shit, Tom. I have been looking for Jacobs (pronounced yahcubs) since I got back from Germany 8 years ago to no avail. Best coffee I ever had. Saved my life many times in the break room in our shop the morning after all nighters. Okay, every morning.

Anybody got any leads?

Whoa - I'm gonna have to try me some of that! I always buy a half-pound of Jamaican Blue Mountain for Christmas morning with our family-recipe rolls and for after dinner. If this Arbor Day stuff is even close and reasonably priced - I'm there.

There's a little guy here in Castle Rock that roasts his own beans at his coffe shop. Good guy and a right wing nut job. Worth my money whether I buy whole beans or a drip in the AM. Crowfoot Valley Coffee (http://www.crowfootcoffee.com/home.asp)

Before Starbucks was on the planet, I took a vacation to Italy and thought the Italians really knew how to brew a cup of coffee... obviously with a Cafe on every corner.

Starbucks basically commercialized that experience here ... but IMO, never came close to the quality...

Then a few years ago I spent some time in Miami on business... due to an aquisition. If you know anything about Miami, it's heavily populated with Cuban's.

I've learned three things American Cuban's take very seriously:

1. Freedom
2. Coffee
3. Cigars

In that order ...

If you've ever experienced a late afternoon Cuban coffee, you know what I'm talking about---the Cuban's think Italian's drink water during their two-hour siestas.

RED CUP, made in Thailand by Nestle, I think. This coffee will wake you up before you even get the 1st mouthful down, & then there's no turning back. If you are afraid to act like Richard Pryor in the '80's or you're bathroom is occupied, STAY AWAY. :guitar: Rock n roll for 4 hours & then crash on the couch. I 1st had this on vacation in Thailand. I was running outta $$ & didn't want to pay restaurant prices for coffee, so went to the grocery store to buy coffee, this is what I got. Asian grocer's don't often have it, but they'll get it for you pretty cheap. Live the life, GET YOU SOME. :yap:
BTW, I have been wheeling in Thailand twice, in a total knockoff Jeep CJ looking thing with 7 slits in the grille. They come with 4 cylinders only, I wish I could remember the name of the Co. that makes them, how about a new JEEP for $4000?
And my last thought, has anyone thought about helping the Tsunami victims? I'd be really interested in somekind of unique way to get together & help out. I was going to go back to Thailand at the end of January before this thing hit, but $$ became too tight, so I can't. Anyone interested in brainstorming?

There is only one way to get the best coffee. Buy your beans green and roast it yourself. Nothing compares with true, fresh roasted (2-7 days old) coffee.
As for Charbucks, they purposely over roast their beans. That way the differences in bean quality is removed. Basically, the "character" of the bean is roasted out of it.

I was waiting for a "roast your own" response....

some of the bigger bulk-ingredients homebrew supply shops also sell quality -green- beans by the sack, as well as beginner through professional roasting equipment....

cool factor.

Thanks for setting the record straight, I was about to :rattle:

Starbucks rules & all you that say otherwise suck. It's all about consistency, & Starbucks has it, other than in Chicago where they insist on calling non-fat milk 'skim' milk. You're lucky to get anything even close to what you order at the Coffee Bean, & god forbid you use Starbucks lingo with'um, ya better find the door fast.
I've spent a lot of time in France & Italy, Starbucks blows both away, & at a fraction of the price.

1. Weekly my wife or one of four daughters sends me some type of warning pulled from an e-mail and 1st plave I go is Snopes.com. However...as I do a reserach on the threat du jour I wonder...how do we know snopes.com is honest to goodness for real and not the passer of false information?

2. Coming home from Guantanamo Bay, traveling in uniform, changed planes in Miami, went to Starbucks and stood in line with about a dozen other folks in uniform and the Starbuck's wouldn't except payment from any of us, seems like that a good support of troops.

3. AlaskaFlyer; There are a few of us Coastie's on this site.

I like the local corner cafe's better than the chains, but I like Carl's Jr better than MacDonald's, there's a starbucks and arches on just about every corner and in every small town, those larger chains just take over, like ivy.

Take care,
Tom
