I was disapointed. I was hoping for something a little less highschoolish than what it turned out to be. The comercials before when they were looking for a host made it sound like you needed to be an experienced fabricator and offroader. I wish I would have entered after I have seen the two clowns they hired. That ram was retarted, gotta love the 13" of lift and 38's on stock gears, and the electric step rails are "sick".
Sorry for the rant but the Seahawks have me in a bad move.

I caught the middle to the end of it today, and when i first saw it i got so excited!
i was like wow, a new show on extreme 4X$! sweet!
....then i saw what they were working on and i was like, oh, great . ..
the few minute clip of the buggy crawling was cool
the electric step on the ram was "neat" , but lame. . .
hopefully they fix up that yellow wrangler into something cool
it would be great if they worked on an XJ. . .

I saw most of the episode and was quite disappointed as well. I am really not interested in some super high dollar rig. They should rename it extreme budget 4x4, where they ruin a perfectly good rig by increasing its Bling Factor.
Most of the mags are the same as well.
Just once I would like to see something with more of a trip/trail report. Even 4x4 Television is guilty of the lets watch 20 rigs spin their wheels on the same obstacle. Then again, sponsors aren't interested in paying for time on a show like that.
I'm not a rock crawler though. I also think staying closer to stock is better, so what do I know?

It is a rather sophomorish and bling, but I think it'll settle in once folks start setting them straight on what "extreme" is. Send in your comment and they will probably listen. At least it's better than Trucks.
Personally, I would rather not see them build up an XJ, because I will probably hate it because it'll all be bolt on crap from RE and Rusty's and the other "just add water" companies like JP Mag's XJ was built.

Maybe if I can find a Ram disc brake and enough c-clamps I can fab up a cage.

I caught some of it today and wasn't impressed much at all. The hosts seem to "lets do what every rich person/tennager with money would do". It could just be me though. I think that some of these shows need to be a little more realistic in the fact that not all people have a brand new truck they will be lifting 13inches. But if it's bringing in the $$$ for Spike (or whoever), then thats all they care about.

Air bag suspensions? Cool, but wouldn't the pinion operating angles change at different heights? Not to mention alignment issues like toe-in changing.

Trucks and such have some decent stuff, he did a pretty good job on that white TJ he built for that kid but it also took 3 episodes :D , like two guys garage, teasers on how something is done. Like to see 'This is how an 8.25 comes apart and gets new gears and gets put back together including backlash', 'this is how to do a SYE, both 'chop' and 'replace' on a 231. I'd even watch that late at nite....
How about "This is how you do a disc brake conversion on a jeep using JEEP off the shelf parts"...and go to our web site for the part numbers too... and thats just for jeeps, for other stuff I could think of a 100 others.

yeah, I feel yall on the hosts. They're pretty lame. I was expecting a show with more Xtreme in it. not so much how to turn your truck into a show truck. the first show makes it seem like they are trying to appeal to high schoolers. I dont know I just hope they do something different than the show Trucks. I want to see legit projects for trailriding, crawlin and such. not mall crawlers.

I was dissapointed as well they are doing the same exact things that "Trucks" has been doing for years. I mean I can recall at least 2 or 3 times seeing Stacy install and air bag system. That dodge looked retarded when it was 13" up in the air and was only sitting on 38's. I think by now my 3 yr old son can install an air bag set up after seeing it so many times. If you are going to have a new show it should be just that NEW! dont repeat what others have done before you.Just my 2 cents.

i didnt like it either, in the commercials they showed rock crawling, trail pics and mud boggin'.. then they go and build a pavment pounder?!!? to top it all off they used airbags... not even a full suspention lift, at least that might have been some what interesting. and yea... 38's? stock gears? wtf? why? i just sayin' if their ganna call it EXTREME 4X4 then show us the extreme.. not something that most of us dont like or just can't afford..
the 'cheap jeep' project.. i think im ganna stay tunned for that one, hopfully they will do something that we in the real world would do or can do..

Yes guys... we got your email and comments and we agree! Keep watching however. It's been a bit of a rush to get this show on the air by Jan 1, and we had to wait a few shows for a full-blown off-road build. Project Alloy Jeep begins on the Powerblock Jan 22-23, followed immediately by another 5 part Baja Ranger project.
This weekend, 1/15-16 we build Fabtech's new and first ever lift kit for the 2005 Ford Superduty - glorified street truck?... yes. But no off road wimp either. Thanks for watching - and giving us the benefit of the doubt to start, and keep those comments coming!

Top notch!
NAXJA has it's finger on the way things are heading. Stay tuned HERE to find out what folks REALLY want in a wheeler. I applaud you for replying to our concerns, and if you ever get around to building an XJ (I know it's hard to do a show on an out-of-production vehicle) we should be the first place you look for tips.
Finally, PLEASE don't buy some outlandish multi-thousand dollar kits for your project vehicles. Fabrication is the way most folks are able to afford staying in this pasttime and more people than you think have fab skills and the means to create.
Obviously, if someone can afford a Super Duty truck they can afford the lift and everything to go along with it. Please consider leaving those segments to "Trucks!", because it's not the kind of extreme that makes for a different kind of show.
If you want an example of an extreme new truck, look at what 4wheeler mag did with thier Ultimate Avalanch (very cool). Lifting a brand new Dodge 13" and throwing on 38"s and running stock gears, knowing full well that that thing is gonna see less off road time than a VW Bug, is extreme too (very uncool from a wheeler's standpoint), but the other end of the spectum.
The Outdoor Channel has good shows, but they aren't "extreme". Please do something different with your show other than what we've already seen on other networks and your own. Make it truly "extreme".
Finally, I applied for a host position and recall on the application, the need for a host with skills. I assume that because I wasn't chosen the one you DID choose has great skills. Let them use their skills to make a different brand of 4X4 show. Less cardboard boxes and more raw steel.

ok props on responding to this post.. BUT i got a good build up idea that i've never seen on TV before... since this is an XJ site why dont you guys build up a Jeep Cherokee??? every body builds TJ's CJ's and YJ's, NEVER XJ's why not? you guys are a new show and if you want to be different then be different. we've all seen tons of build ups oh full sized trucks(lifted, lower, everything).. and we've seen a lot done to OLD trucks and SUV's making them into rigs but why not an XJ? just a thought...

I have to say that I am impressed with a response from Spike. That at least shows theres a desire to appeal to a real four wheeler based crowd. and for them to hear about NAXJA can only be good. For that response alone, I will be making sure to watch. and I agree with okie terry that I would love to see fabrication done on the show. To be honest I was really disappointed in your new show. Its just another Trucks. Where is the extreme anyway? All I saw was a built up street dodge. How is this in anyway related to extreme 4x4s?
IF you want to make this show worth while get rid of the street crap! Stay with the trail rigs and rock crawling...This is what people want to see. If you don't believe me check out this link from our Jeep club.

They already did a huge lift and it was lacking. It would be nice to see a show promote ideas rather than products like showing how to put fuel injection on a 258 using 4.0L parts instead of showing you how to install a holley unit, or showing you how to build a capable low cog rig on the cheap. At least mention some common swaps like radius arms in front, or mixing your own leaf packs. This is probably not possible because they wouldn't be promoting sponsors. That's what makes this site such a great resource no one is here to make a profit.

I'm running about 8 inches with 35s. IMO I think this is too tall a lift with too small a tire. I don't have the money to dump into way stronger axles right now though so I stick with a D44 and a D30 and smallish tires...Haven't broke yet but I know I would with 37s

I thought that the show is a good idea but the hosts dont have much experience like stacy david does on TRUCKS. he does a lot of custom metal work and engine work. i remember the guys on extreme 4x4 saying that when lifting the dodge ram, to mark the caster adjusting eccentrics. the truck has adjustable control arms and a t-case clocked down. at that point i said these guys dont know shit.

The show is doomed.
Anyone can order parts from a friggin' catalog. They should have hired my wife for the hosting position. She can't fabricate for shit, but she is one of the best at ordering stuff and she's alot better looking than the ones on there now.

They look like tapered buffalo horn earings. I went through a phase where I had my lobes stretched to 00 (roughly 10mm). It's what happens when you get bored in the middle of nowhere.
I have only seen the Spike show twice. They had some interesting teasers for the future episodes, but the two vehicles they worked on were dissapointing. Gotta get sponsors though.

Extreme Jeep my ass!
No one I know starts out with a bare frame and a pile of free, high-zoot parts.
The show is one big commercial for the sponsoring companies, with some shots of tools scattered about.
HP9 front and RockJock 60, PriceJacker suspension, aluminum tub...that sounds about right.
Show me junkyard swaps, engine swaps, and rare axle finds and tech.
Hell, walk through a R&P setup.
That alone would get me to watch regularly.
Call that show 'Sponsorship 4x4', or maybe 'Extreme Bling'

Hell, walk through a R&P setup.
That alone would get me to watch regularly.
Call that show 'Sponsorship 4x4', or maybe 'Extreme Bling'
My $.02.
Ditto.
I've been waiting for this show to come on, the first thing I see is them ordering stuff from Q-tec?
Real "Extreme". If there is ever a word that is thrown around way too much, that's the one.
These people need to figure out that real wheelin is done with a lot of fab work, and re-using crap pulled from boneyards.
You guys notice the bottom of the rocker was about level with (if not higher than) the guys waist? Let's all make our jeeps 10 feet tall!

Extreme Jeep my ass!
No one I know starts out with a bare frame and a pile of free, high-zoot parts.
The show is one big commercial for the sponsoring companies, with some shots of tools scattered about.

Maybe we should invite them to the fall fling with all their rigs they have build by then....Have a real world shootout to see which works better.

Ok...as I am watching this I do have one positive thing to say....Its ABOUT TIME someone showed how to really pack a wheel barring. My dad showed me that trick when I was like 6 YO and I never see anyone do it right.

Yes, extreme bearing packing. Almost makes it all worth it.

Real wheeling can be done with just about anything (assuming it can actually get down the trail). Real building and tech is fab work and junkyard surfing, IMO. I used to wheel a stock Tracker through some stuff that people with better built rigs than I were afraid of. And some people (like me) have don't have the time, space, or ability to fab stuff up. I agree with everyone, though, that it'd be nice to see some actual fab work and junkyard suring done for once on a show because there's plenty of shows showing us all the bolt ons. I'd like to learn more junk yard swaps and how to fab some stuff and there's no shows that'll teach someone like me how to do that kind of stuff.

I was astounded that the cat actually put grease on his bare hand.
I have been operated on in rooms that weren't that clean.
That show is the equivalent of the 'magazines' that I get from Four Wheel Parts every month.

I really dont think this show will last much longer! Look at what happened to their bike show "Top Dead Center" It was the same show but with bikes. It was all centered around the sponsors with a few racing clips and that didnt last a year. Im sure that there are other online groups and 4x4 clubs that feel the same way we do about this show and it will all come to an end unless it changes soon . The one problem is we can all sit here and bitch about the show but they wont change it or cancel it if everyone is watching it! The only way to drop tv ratings is to not watch the show.
my 2 cents.

I agree with everything said... I personally want to see the fab and junkyard swaps because thats real life, and for my skill level, that will help me out. but I do think that show needs to change, but I would hate to see spike loose its only opportunity for a 4x4 show. so for their sake and ours I hope that executives listen to what people have to say so that it lasts and becomes a positive and generally pleasing show.

I was looking around their site...They have a message board. Maybe we should make a mass effort to get the message to them personaly.

I think if they care about what people have to say, they can check their email and follow the links to this thread. We have a good running dialog going here and it would be in thier best intrest to check it periodically. Just shoot 'em an email reminder once in a while to check this thread.

I didn't think I was really that bad.
They seem to be very touchy about criticism. They sent me two e-mails telling me to give them a break and don't be so harsh. I thought I was just being honest.

I think the best criticism is what people are saying ABOUT you, not what they're saying TO you. I don't think we're being overly harsh or even too mean. Even if they don't reply anymore, they still should keep an eye on this.
From what you say, it seems they don't want the criticism or they're so proud that they honestly can't see what's wrong with the show.
I guess they kinda have to bite the bullet on the episodes that are already taped. Maybe they'll fix the problems in the next round of production.

I still say...since they are watching....that we should send them a personal invite to the fall fling or the winterfest or something....Give them something REAL to show. BTW I watched the show again and I hate to say it but the Jamboreies they filmed are EXACTLY whats wrong with that show. At the same time....Spike has WWE on it....WWE+Big truck Jambories=Xtreeme4x4TV

Judging by looking at the jeep build they have A LOT of sponsors and they are trying to appease them all. I don't know why else with an unlimited budget they would use skyjacker coil spring suspension, or an aluminum tub. Did you guys notice the fake beadlocks?
I still think it's a little cool just to see our hobby on TV. Even in an exaggerated and phony version. I'll still watch it and hope something good comes on.

So anyone think it's improved?
Hmmm.... They actually did *some* on the cheap jeep and drove it around a bit...
They are fabbing up tons of stuff (mostly the chick welding) for a wrecked ford pick up baja/pre-runner style (I guess that's the goal)
they showed a banks install and mentioned the value of the 05 ram special edition with all the parts was 75K as they did run about 60 in someone's cow pasture
they visited one "extreme" rock crawling competition
It's obvious that these shows, like Trucks and the hot rod show are loaded with advertisements for parts and whatnot, but in the case of Trucks and Extreme 4x4 they seem to be making some effort to include more than just "order and bolt on".
I think this show has gotten a bit better -- then they go and spend a whole show on that Banks 05 install. Woosh. Way over my budget -- even though I'd love to have that truck :P
The gal in the show is cute, so I'll contine to DVR it and catch it when I can. Plus I suck at mechanical stuff, so maybe I'll learn something by accident.
