Or is it a ZJ ?? 1996 Grand Cherokee, V8, Auto RWD, D44 (aluminium pumpkin) with D35 tubes, 4.10 gears and LSD. Could the carrier, ring and pinion be transplanted into a 1988 XJ D44? I think the rest of the housing is useless; at least as far as I am concerned. TIA

I would avoid that aluminum 44, they have little to no aftermarket support and aren't as strong as a trditional 44. Better to go with an 8.8 out of an explorer or find an older XJ 44.

The aluminum D44 uses a special carrier for sure,not sure about the gears!

Parts are not interchangeable between the Alum. 44 and a normal Iron 44

Thanks. I would just leave that alone except for the disk brakes that I have already taken.
