I have a 87 XJ, 4WD, 4Ltr, Automatic Trans, 231 TC. I am installing a 242 TC, at the same time I will be installing a 98 D30 (66K miles).
Old and new D30s have the same gear ratio (3.54). When I bought the 98 D30 from a salvage yard, they included upper & lower control arms, sway bar links, sway bar, and bent steering rods.
Befor instalation of the 98, I want to R&R the u-joints, I need to replace the sway bar links (broken by me) and I wanted to buy new control arms and or bushings.
The 98 has different sway bar links than the 87, same for Upper and lower control arms. Which links and contol arms do I use, 87 or 98?

While I have the D30 out, I will replace the rear main seal and oil pan and gasket (one piece gasket).

Any suggestions, comments, advice?

Are the control arms shaped to accept a larger tire? What is different about the arms and links?

If your talking about the OEM, I would use the 98 just because it's newer and most likely the bushing would be in better shape. The frame end should accept the later arms. I have a 93 with a 2001 TJ axle and everything fit fine.
