intake question

Not unless you submerge it. I know entirely too many people using open element filters in various applications, and there's about as much risk of water ingestion as with the OEMR filter and airbox setup.

If you get it UNDER water, you're going to have trouble - but you should probably have created a snorkel kit anyhow (remember, a true fording kit has both an intake snorkel and an exhaust snorkel - something that seems to be forgotten quite a bit...)

The only reason I haven't mounted them myself yet is that I just finally found open element filter setups for RENIX 4.0 that happen to be CARB-OK'd.

an exhaust snorkel raises your exhaust above the water line so that if your engine should die in the middle of the river, stream, lake, pond, etc. Water won't flow up the tail pipe.
