First of all let me introduce myself. This is my first post here.Great forum that you have here, and some very knowledgable Jeep enthusiasts.
I have a question.
I have a seal leaking on my rear axle.I assume that it is the Chrysler 8.25 rear axle.It is flat on the bottom.
I figure while I am changing the seals,I might as well do the bearings. Is this a very difficult job?Any special tools required?
I am a fairly competent mechanic.I do all my own repair work.I just have very little experience with rear axles.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Lewis,

I believe you need a hydraulic press to position the bearing which, unless you have one, means you need to take your rig to a shop.

You need a inside bearing puller/slide hammer to remove. You can make one out a an HD washer that has the same O.D. as the axle tube I.D. !!
