non-disco axle/t-case ?

Trying to get on the learning curve...:)

I am going to be putting a non-disco front axle in my MJ. I am also going to pull the 207 and replace it with a 231. My question is...do I need to get a 231 out of a jeep with the non-disco axle...or does it matter? And I already know about the different spline counts for the various years.

It only matters if you ARE running the disco front axle.
My earlier 231 for a disco has no affect on my non-disco axle.

What year is yours. I did the non disco swap on my 88 and 4wd works fine. Did you plug up the vaccum lines that go to the t case.

Got it:) I'll be running a non-disco front axle so that's good for me that it doesn;t amtter with the t-case.

Make sure and grab the drive shafts. The 207 vs the 231 yields a rear shaft that is about an inch different. Can't remember if it is longer or shorter. The front shaft is totally different, with a different connection scheme to the tcase.

I will do that. Chances are I will need a new DS for the rear anyhow as I'm doing SOA (with an 8.8 rear axle) and most likely an SYE (I love all these initials!! LOL).

My XJ is a 92. Came w/NP231 non-disco and 23 spline shaft.
I swapped in a 90 NP231 after Gunseth's 4x4 Center in Surry, NH swapped the inputs around.
I did not plug the vacuum lines yet. Reason being is if no vacuum is presented to the switch, nothing will be open to take on water. HOWEVER: Vaccum plugs are cheap off the high performance shelf at all the local chains here. I FULLY intend to do so.
My PART TIME light does not work, but hey...
Also, the speedo drive was swapped.
