Got a 87' XJ, D44 rear w/Trac-lok, auto tranny, 188,XXX miles. The clutches need to be replaced. Could somebody please tell me, in a brief description, how to do this? I am mechanically inclined but not to fimilar with D44. Thanks people...

it reqiures use of a special dealer tool used to compress the clutches.
Just get yourself a whole new carrier with the clutches installed...saves lots of time and headaches...
4 wheel parts carries them pretty cheap, quadratec carries them too IIRC
