View Full Version : Chapter Decal?

Well since every other chapter seems to have one in the works, what do you guys think about getting our own? Can anyone get stickers made up? I could come up with a design if everybody wants.

At our last meeting we had discussed a chapter sticker. but hadn't set anything in stone. We need someone with any artistic ability(which a few of us completely lack).
I know a guy who does vinyl for signs. It isn't a true multicolor sticker but he could do a single color sticker.

I agree,
several designs and then vote on one.
There are lots of places that can now make multicolor stickers from digital photos and such should not be too difficult. What I think we need to look at is the cost of having them printed in multi color and in single color and see the major difference in cost. That will help determine the way to go for a design of a sticker in the first place.

I would put the national NAXJA sticker on my rig if it was "cooler looking"!!

Auburn Sign Co. (253-854-2333) made the stickers for our club. They are about 3x6" die cut vinyl single color. They were just under a buck each when we did 100 of 'em. Very high quality, very easy/friendly to deal with and a small, family owned business which I personally like to deal with.

What color background? Would prefer something dark or Clear... maybe Red Lettering w/Forest Green Background?

(Gonna bounce around the board and see what I need to do to join the local Chapter)

It's a matter of only having MS Paint, not having the source (and better tools). This was intended to be a basic concept picture of the idea I had for a mod to CW's original. I'm sure CW or someone else could do it better. Did the best I could with basic tools and about 45mins of time.

I just used Paint's cut and drag feature with no background to drop the Northwest Chapter onto the Rainy XJ section.

I have not had much time to throw any ideas to gether but I was thinking something a little more Cartoon ish. I like the idea of useing the standard Oval sticker with a xj grill as the background (either a pic like the one in the rain in earlier pics or a imitation like the "jeep grill signs" not sure If I can explain very well). Then put the NAXJA name on top and the NorthWest Chapter on the bottom.

My thought is that it is clean and simple.

I do not seem to be able to attach what I have done so far, but I will attempt again later.

I like the oval one CW. My only concern is the rain on the grill, Not sure how it will look on a sticker. Making it too busy or blurry. Or maybe it is just me.

If anyone wants to know the OFFICAL FONT of naxja it is TAHOMA Bold. That way if you don't want the shadowing you can make your own lettering.

Keep up the good work guys they are looking great. I have half of one started maybe I will finish it. Does anyone know where I could get a good cartoon pic of a cherokee?

When I orginally did the oval I used the "standard Jeep grill" like in my avitar but I wanted the chrokee version but can not find one already done. I am sure there is one available we just need to find or make and then replace the background in the oval with it.

Personally I like the simplicity and cleanliness of the oval.
I also like keeping the original NAXJA name so it is recognizable.

I will try to find some more time to play with a few other ideas also (maybe I need to work on the whole posting issue).

I was also wondering what that 'bumper sticker' type one a few posts above would look like a little more evened out. Perhaps remove '.org' and make the 'NAXJA bigger'...and all text red? There's just a big open white spot... :(

I like this one as well as my idea that was cleaned up by CW. Also I'd like the decals to be narrow and not too tall. I'd like to put it on my rear window vice the body or bumper. For that it would be good to have it applied from the inside, but I don't know how difficult it is to have the adhesive for that type. Good stuff guys keep them coming. It's a concept - simple as that.

As far as copyright goes - Mt Rainier is from a drawing for the USGS from somewhere in the 1950s...I don't think we will have an issue with it. The "Monster Truck"? It was on a "public forum" no mention of copyrights anywhere.

The "Monster Truck" did EXACTLY what I wanted it to...It is (indeed) a little over the top, but aren't we all? ;) If someone can find a decent illustrative (drawing) of an XJ, (more than just the grill) I think it would identify the XJ a little better to the general public. Some people don't even know what an XJ is - even some owners! :(

As I said above - it's a concept...I wasn't aware we were submitting "Final versions" yet and I CAN do some cleanup here - or - should I just press DELETE now?

CW
January 10th, 2005, 11:27
Jesus, calm down. I didn't mean anything bad by "over the top" and as far as me stating that people need to get away from paint, I stand by it. I don't understand how people can work with it. You have no controll and very few tools and nothing looks good when you are done. Using a better program saves you time. Thats just my oppinion. My post was not a slam against you or your logo I was just stating that it's really rough, and that you can get a better program for FREE if you follow the link Ecksjay posted a while ago. As for the copyright issue I was just curious, i don't want to worry about someone seeing a sticker and freaking out because their drawing is on it. And there is a copyright sign at the bottom of almost every forum, I don't know if that applies to posted materials or just logos and such. I thought it was a decent question to ask but it wasn't nescesarily directed just to you and I wasn't trying to put you on the defensive.

I think that is cool. I think it could do with a couple of changed but I like concept and how different it is from the others.

CW
No matter what program people use or what capability they have for doing these concept, the most important idea at the moment is to get concepts and idea out to others so that all of us can generate as many ideas as possible and make a educated decision on what we like and dislike the most.

All of the clean up and minor changes can be made once we get down to the few we really like to decide between.

Most of us have very very little time to come up with these drawings to present to others.

Where are you guys at with this? (Hi, I'm a newbie from Marysville)

I didn't read all of the posts, just kinda skipped to the end to see if anything was decided upon. First thing, where are they being printed up or are they just gonna be cut out of vinyl? A single color sticker (Vinyl) would be simple clean and sharp - vinyl is cheaper too if a budget is a concern. I've designed a ton of logos and quite a few for the sides of vehicles, so if it's still up in the air, let me know and I can get something to throw in the mix.

Is there a place to look at examples of the other chapter's decals? We should definitely have the best.

The decal submissions you see are all that have been submitted. I had one with Mt. Rainier but I posted and linked to a location that expired. I will be resubmitting my Mt Rainier contribution by the end of the week.

Our last trip was to Reiter's outside of Goldbar. I have pics posted at: http://home.comcast.net/~mr_sniggly. Feel free to browse (and sign my guestbook! ;) ).

Again, welcome!

Thanks for the invite. I will happily come along sometime, but my rig is aslo a daily driver, I take it out when I'm out backpacking and biking, but nothing to severe. Got a 3" lift and am running 31's but I'm stock other than that.

To give the group an update. I took one of the designs that Mark had on our last Snow run and handed it to my brother. I have not gotten an update, but I know he was working on a sticker this morning. Is it safe to assume that this is going to be used as a sample only? I don't think a decision has been made yet?

Thanks for the compliments. I have several ideas, but what is really imporant when designing these is HOW they will be printed. I know someone mentioned that they have a hook-up somwhere for making stickers. What process do they use. Let me know and I can give the parameters for what we can create. For instance, the NAXJA drop-shadow effects cannot be duplicated if using Vinyl.

Oh, and are you gonna make a smaller window style that is about 4 inches as well as a bumper size sticker? I think we may as well. I'll make a couple more tonight.

Anyway, I can help with whatever you guys choose or can create more if you want. If you want art, I can make it. (I design logos for a living) But, I'll keep my opinions to myself for now, cuz I'm not yet a REAL member. :)

FOR WHICH PART??? The blue oval outline started out kinda olive/goldish, but wasn't very appreciated, so Willis changed it to blue. Changing the actual Jeep color would be a snap, but might not look good on everyone's fender or bumper... Color all depends on HOW these are actually printed.

Has that been worked out yet? HOW ARE THESE BEING MADE? It's important to know while designing this thing so we know our limitations. (I do this for a living)

XJourney
February 10th, 2005, 19:55
I am not sure what you want to know about how they are made. I know we can get them printed as your average sticker. Just like any preformance sticker such as RE, Detroit, Summit or any other one. Does that answer your question? I don't know much about stickers. So what you have done so far is VERY acceptible. IMHO I wouldn't go into too much more detail with your drawns, I like them simple.

Even though people posted that they didn't like the gold, your work is very apprieciated. Thanks

I just prefered the idea of the "jeep" colors (olive and kahki) instead of the blue and red. Anyone can play with them and get an idea, I was just thinking outloud.

On the note of how we want these. Maybe we should consider a vote on what we would prefer (window sticker, bumper sticker, other?) mabye a vote for oval or rectangle also?

The only reason I bring this up is it might help us reduce the total number to choose from.
Personally I have no interest what so ever in a rectangular bumper sticker. however I would really like a oval window sticker. If others feel the same way or different, we should modify our designs to match what the majority want?

Just thougths again,
michael

Hans, have you asked the BOD what is required on a chapter sticker? I know other chapters have gone through this, and since all chapter presidents get on the BOD forum, you will get some input. Seems like when the Sierra Chapter did there's, there was explicit rules as to what was needed. I don't know if it was there rules, or NAXJA's rules. Seems like "NAXJA.org" was required, as was "North American XJ Association". I know the NAXJA lettering must be printed in Tomaha Bold in the correct color. The others, I'm not sure.

REMEMBER EVERYONE YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR DECALS DONE BY MIDNIGHT FEB 20. Max of 2 per person.

Is it really limited to two per person? Most of the suggstions were produced by two people adapting designs based on feedback. That would limit our options signifigantly. How will the two from each person be chosen? I came out with three designs that seemed well recieved. Clearafication would be helpfull.

XJourney
February 20th, 2005, 08:17
Well the idea of the limit of two was to make the polling easier. If it was unlimited, we would have to do a bracket eliminationer style vote which could take a while, since each poll goes a week.

But since most people I have talked to are dropping out of the decal (contest?) due to the stiff competition and outstanding quality of the few. We MAY change the "two per" limit.

So go ahead and Email me your decals so I can set up the poll later this week.

Howard, I can not speak on behalf of the whole group at dinner (there was 14 or more of us there) however, I think that Brian got his fare share of the discussion :)

Actually like most of these groups the majority of conversation was about what we each need to do to our rigs and where we are going next!! I think the overwhelming push was for Evans Creek Or other down farther south.

It was great having you with us, we all enjoyed your company (and red white and blue)!!
