How streetable is a Detroit Locker in the back?
does it cause premature wearing of tires or??

I don't have a Detriot, but a lock-rite and I can't see any extra tire wear.

Very streetable. It will cause a little more wear. Depends on how you drive.

Fine with an auto, horrible with a stick, not so good on icy surfaces. THIS IS FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, not heresay.

Make sure you have a rear axle that will not break shafts, otherwise you'll be reaplacing Detroit sidegears on a regular basis. The shock loads placed on the Detroit when you violently break an axle usually shear the engagement teeth on one of the side gears.

I have a stock 44 with detroit and 4.56s, the detroit only acts up every now and then but I absolutely love it on the street. You can lose it pretty easy in the wet stuff if not careful but you get used to it. I believe it is very streetable. With the 44 you should be alright.

Well, if you are easy on it, and check the splines of the 44 every once in a while, you'll be fine. Something like 35 spline shafts with 37" or smaller tires is what I would call bulletproof.

I don't know, I guess I'm just much more partial to selectable lockers that don't use engagement teeth on the side gears. (ARB)

I have a Detroit soft locker in my rear Dana 44 with Moser axles. More than 30,000 miles and its great. I do have an auto. No problems, it may POP about once every few months, but that is normal. I do not see any additional tire wear. Rotate every 6,000 miles or as needed.
