Anyone else do anything really dumb today?

We finished putting an 8.8 (locked and geared) and a budget boost in a TJ this morning. I used a stubby end wrench on the other end of an impact on a rusty bolt and nearly tore the end off my finger.......OUCH!!!

Now I'm sitting here with a wraped up, throbbing finger that I can't use to hit the keys. But at least the Jeep is finished. Dinner isn't for a few hours.....I think I'm going to take a nap. :rattle:

I just finnished mounting my new tires on my beadlocks, in my livingroom. Does that qualify as "dumb"? :D

Ouch..... find some cold brew to cool the finger and remember you gotta keep emptying it so that you can get a freshly chilled one out to replace the other one.

I managed to get a nice case of food poisoning - the DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING!!! (timing is everything, isn't it?)

I can't get over the image of Jes wrangling rubber in his livingroom. Either he's not married or doesn't want to be!

:

Not today, but Sunday.

Cutting a cage out of a Alpine Sunbeam, well cage would be a generous description,

"Sch40 deathtrap" would be better.

Access was lousy, so I am using a cutting disc on a 7" grinder. Last cut and the cage pinched the blade, 5000rpms was instantly transferred into major rotational force on said grinder. used my left ring finger as a grinder bumpstop. Said finger exploded like an overripe grape, operator was too dazed and confused and cowardly to rip off the nail, even though it was barely attached at the quick.

So full sympathies on the sore digit.

Whoa....Grant, OOOOOOUUCCHH!!!

See, I knew I'd find someone who was as dumb as I am.........

:D :D

You were wearing leather gloves....right?

Grant
November 26th, 2004, 10:17
Yup, I always wear gloves, glasses and hearing protection. I have been particularly anal about it since Bill-a-Vista got the steel in his eye a couple years ago.

About the only thing I should have done, was wear thick gloves, rather than MIG type gloves. But the gloves definitely helped limit the carnage.

I have thought the whole thing through and I screwed up in the way I was cutting the cage, kinda like cutting down on an unsupported limb with a chainsaw. I was cutting a vertical section and the weight of the cage came down on the blade as it cut through. I won't make that mistake again.

And typing (or anything else for that matter) sucks with a messed up finger.

Yeah, me too. After Bill's incident I put on the safety glasses as soon as I walk into the garage, then I also wear a face shield whenever I'm grinding. I found some bifocal safety glasses that work real well for my older eyes....... :)

Exactly right. Disconnecting the battery to work on the jeep is incredibly dumb.

Wasn't fixing mine, but I got on the wrong end of a radar gun on the way to work yesterday morning, two days after buying a used RC off a co-worker (luckily he didn't ask what was in the metal breifcase in the cargo area.)

Depends on whether it was good wine or not......

I woke up this morning and found that half my bottle of Jack was gone. I sure don't remember drinking it, but my head sure hurts.

As for the finger thing, back before I learned to take off my rings when working on mechanical stuff, I mashed my ring down almost to the bone with a highlift. I had to grab the dremel tool with a emery cutoff wheel and slice it off before I lost the finger. Good thing it was on the left hand. I don't know how well I would have done cutting that thing off left handed in that much pain. Your going to laugh, I actually had to hold the ring in the vice while I cut it. Good thing nobody was watching.

Just weird....coincidence?
As a matter of tradition, I used to allocation one bottle of Jack for each major PCB job that I routed. When done routing and the bottle was empty, I would stuff check plots in to the bottle and keep it as a momento.

I was more worried about not being able to produce a reciept on the truck, he got the truck at the store we work at and I was the cashier who sold it to him. Although I was more worried we would ask about weapons too, Since I was on my way to work, I had my boxcutter on me.
