Here's a link to pics of our JV trip.

JV trip pics (http://fototime.com/inv/09113F64D3AA7E7)

We had another great weekend in JV. Andy, Jes, Gary, and Bryan C made it down from NorCal, and Joe, Rick and their friend Jim came out from Phoenix, plus an assortment of us SoCal folks, and Matt from in between. Hinkley drove out from Texas, but unfortunately he wasn't able to bring Caltrans so he rode with Paul most of the time. Friday we ran Wrecking Ball, and it pretty much lived up to it's name. Among other carnage, I broke a Warn stub shaft and it took out the spindle, which made for a difficult trail repair. Gary caved in a door and seriously messed up his new paint job. We ran a good part of the trail in the dark, but still had a great potluck dinner when we got back to camp.

Saturday we ran Sledgehammer with no breakage other than Matt bending a shock. After another good potluck dinner, we headed back out for a night run and did lower Big Johnson, but decided not to do upper Big because it got really cold and windy and started to sprinkle. The next morning we were VERY surprised to wake up to snow....check out the pics.

All the cool kids are running them, so I do too.

I just wanted to say thanks to all who helped stack rocks and spot on the trail. Also special thanks to Mark Hinkley, FarmerMatt, and Porch Puppy for welding my junk back together on the trail.

Thanks for the AZGIC invite. I had a blast!

Here's what I learned:

-Snow sucks
-Rock rash on the top side of your XJ is cool
-Lupine is one cool chick, til she gets drunk.
-Superior shafts are worth every penny (all 120,000 of them)
-Snow sucks
-I wish my tow rig was 4WD
-Mickeys bombs suck
-I hate Blaine
-I need to bring more pallets to JV next time.
-Sledgehammer is a cool trail
-Jes rocks
-Snow sucks
-Goatman's rig looks cool with both rear wheels in the air
-Peer pressure will sometimes make you take stupid lines
-Coleman tent heaters are the bomb
-Porch Puppy is a good spotter, and a helluva driver
-Always make sure Joe puts the hole in the Sobe cap
-I cant wait for next November
-Snow sucks

What'd I do??!??

Well, lets see.......

First you tried to pick a fight with me, then you dumped me out of my chair (for which you recieved a noogee).

After that, you tried to get us to take you out and do donuts.

Then you tried to get somebody to blow something up for you (I guess the sobe bombs werent enough)

Then you passed out by the fire, while Hinkley f'ed with you.

It was good entertainment :kissyou:

November 22nd, 2004, 18:43
Thanks for another great run. I've been so busy that this is my first post in months. I finally feel like the XJ is close to done. Put 1,200 miles on the stroker this weekend, pulling the trailer and it was pure sexual pleasure every time I rolled into the throttle at 2,500 RPM and pushed it out to 5,500 with nothing but love flowing.....yummy.

Observations:

- WCGIC and AZGIC are some hard-core MoFo's.
- Fish-boy's lightweight rig owns the steep stuff.
- Jes's rocker panels are JV approved....and then some.
- I own the two best trail dogs on the planet....except for some minor miteration problems.
- Jes and AndyC go places on 33's that web-wheelers have wet dreams about.
- Sobe bombs rock.
- The URF "Disappearing Three Link" rocks.
- Hydro shocks suck.
- Blown hydro shocks suck worse.
- Richard's tires are writing checks his axles can't cash.
- Snow runs at JV are not a good idea.

Ok, Finally got some time to sit down infront of the computer.... What a kick A$$ trip!!!! Hammers RULE!!! Got to actually REALLY test my new junk and watch everyone else wheel their junk. 'DA pup is one he!! of a spotter, as well as hinkley and goatman. Really had fun the whole weekend, but the best part was towing 30,000 Lbs with my Cummins,(My truck and trailer with the XJ, with a strap on the back of my trailer PULLING ricks truck, trailer and XJ) in 4x4, in the snow, up 8% grades!!! I know Ricks next truck will be a 4x4. Cant wait for BOTW. Then we will have to show you cali guys what the "real" Az lines are.... :laugh3:

Damn, sweet pics guys. I mean isn't it totally awesome that you all live so close to these bitchin trails that you can get there in a few hours. I mean it's freakin sweet to just to pack up and go camping and be able to run the best trails CA has to offer in one weekend. I only wish my rig was built up enough to make it out there and run with you guys. Well maybe the next Jeep I trade for will be set up for JV or maybe BOTW. Till then all I got to say is........................ "You guy's totally ROCK"

Just to be clear.....Jes, Andy, Gary, and Bryan drove down from the Sacramento area, quite a bit more than a couple of hours, more like 10+. Matt drove from outside of Madera, 5+ hours. Rick, Joe and Jim drove over from Phoenix, 5+ hours. Mark drove from Texas.

These guys just love this kind of wheeling.

BrettM
November 23rd, 2004, 07:40
really? Mapquest says 426 miles, shade under 7 hours from Sac to Victorville. How long does it take to get from Victorville out to the lake-bed?

Brett:

We took 395 down the back side of the Sierras to head down there, which took 12 hours. We drove back up to Foresthill via 99, which took about 10 hours. Bryan C and Jes live in the Bay Area, and I'm not sure which routes they took.

XJJPR
November 23rd, 2004, 10:39
JV to Dallas takes 32 hours.

2 hours to drive in the snow to Yucca, side trip to get trailer (THANKS MATT!!!!!!!!!!!)

22 hours of driving, eating and fueling

8 hours sleeping in Walmart parking lot

All worth the drive to write one word!

Oh and wheel, even if you have to steal a jeep to do it!

I am thinking that hinkley has put some scrarches on my rig also.....it was CHERRY before he stole it :) Not one scratch on it. Now, I think its totalled. But you have to admit that there is nothing funnier than a farm boy jumping out of a doorless XJ, realizing that he did indeed leave his keys in the ignition and his XJ was right behind the stolen one....PRICELESS.
