91' TPS

Since I bought my XJ it has always revved up to around 1700 RPM or more when first started then quickly settles down to a normal idle.

After seeing the other thread on TPS adjustment I started to search out directions on adjusting mine. I finally found an article saying that the 91' is non-adjustable. Is this true? Could the TPS be my problem?

Once after changing the alternator out the problem went away for several days. I left the battery unplugged for at least one day and just figured it reset the computer. It sure was nice not to have the engine racing before oil pressure got up.

Thanks for the help

Tps on 4.0 xj after '90 are non-adjustable. The engine usually revs a little higher on startup when cold - 1700 sounds a little high though. When a tps is starting to go bad the idle usually starts to spike at startup but usually a little higher than you describe. Greg
