Anyone running an aftermarket tachometer?
If so would you recommend the one you have?
Looking for one to put in the XJ..
Any thoughts?

Why not scrounge up a instrument cluster for your 88 with a tach already in it.

If I did run an aftermaket tach that I have laying around where would I hook it on an 89 4.0?

I have a 93 XJ, and I just hooked the tach lead up to the negative cable on my coil.

I have a Summit Racing tach w/shift light it was like $37 from summit. I would highly recommend it!

The easiest way to run the tach is to pull the gauges and splice into the factory tach wire. The wire I believe is the #12 wire and it is green with a white stripe. I also tapped into a dash light while I was in there so the backlight works with my dimmer.
