u bolt length

how long should i leave the u bolts on my ome 3" lift? im guessing around 2 inches above the nut? just so the u bolts dont bottom out before the bump stop?

2 inches is WAAAAAY too much. 1/4" is more like it, unless you think there may be an AAL in your future, in which case leave 1/2" to allow for the thickness of another leaf with a bit of thread extending beyond the top of the nut.
