The rear end from my 95 (that I bought for its motor, tranny, tcase) turns one tire at time when I turn the drive shaft connector. When I turned a tire the other one would only turn a 1/4 of turn then stop (this happened when I did it on both sides). Is this limited slip or no? It this normal or it is messed up. It was totaled by an older man crashed into the rear end and destroyed the driver rear quarter panel and pushed the tire up and into the quarter panel. It drives I did a three point turn in my yard (it kept going sideways it was like I had two steering wheels) , but I don't now if is good enough for me to put it my 88. The 95 has the Corporate 8.25 and the 88 has the Dana 35 in it.
Thanks for all the help,
DR

Sounds like some of the teeth on the spiders may be stripped? Open it up and check for broken parts.

Thanks for the infor. I hope it not that problem. I just reread my first message. When I turned the one tire it would take a few turns of that tire before the other one would turn that 1/4 of a turn. When I turned the DS connector one tire would turn a few turns then the other one turn a few turns then back to the first tire again in both directions. Could this be limited slip or no? I am only swapping if I have to (if my dana 35 is shot the fluid is coming out in clumps) or if it is limited slip.

It could be something simple like the brake is dragging a bit on the other side and you have an open diff. (not limited slip). Also, when you turn one tire, does the other turn the opposite direction? Again, an open diff.

If I remember correctly it turned the same direction. I will test it again tomorrow to make sure through.

I agree with the post suggesting something is broken. You cannot properly assess the condition of this axle by spinning the wheels.

The only SURE way is to open it up first and take a look. Seeing as how it did have the tire rammed up into the quarter, Id agree that there may be some damage. Probably shouldnt trust anything in there now.

I will have to open her once I get my xj finished and up and running. The funny thing the steel rim is not damaged just the tire popped. I know this don't mean squat though just weird it didn't get damaged.
Yesterday I changed my dana 35 oil and there was very small amount of grit in the oil. The brake cleaner worked great to clean the inside out.

What I forgot to write was the u-bolts slid on the driver side leaf springs and the leafs are also destroyed. I didn't hear no noise from the rear end when I drove it my yard but then still don't mean anything. I wanted to pull the drive side of the rear diff. back into place then drive it but I didn't get to.
Once again thanks for all the help,
