Do you think that it might be a bad idea to leave my current 2000 XJ with 90k miles for another one, same year, with less miles? I would take my axles and bumpers onto the new one.
OR wait a couple years, wheel this thing till it breaks it half(when there is no trade-in value whatsoever) and buy a 2003 Rubicon?
I won't consider making this my trail only rig and having a tow vehicles because i just can't afford that.
What Are YOU guys going to do when your XJ goes, which looks like its coming soon for all of us, as the NEWEST XJ is still 4 yrs old.

Keep your XJ. If you take care of it and build it properly and don't get stupid, it should last you a good long while. What'll I do when my XJ goes? Buy another used vehicle. Get some unibody stiffeners like T&J sells and rock rails and all that good stuff. Keep it protected from rocks and twisting.

I fully expect that at least some of my XJs will live longer than I. I'm 60 years old. My original '88 is still in good physical shape. Engine is at 245,000 miles so maybe in a year or three I'll have to rebuild or replace the engine, but the chassis itself has a lot of time left. Got a couple of others as play rigs, plus the wife has a 2000 Classic that's in good shape and we have a 2000 Sport 5-speed with only 4500 miles on the clock.
Wife doesn't like Cherokees, so if we can afford to buy her something else one of these days I'll have another XJ to preserve.

Heh, our kid is at the point where we needed more room in the backseat...and something easier to get her in and out of. An XJ with 7"+ lift and 33s makes for sore backs getting a 38lb 3 year old in and out of on a regular basis.
Last week we got a 99 WJ Limited with 80k miles. Put some new tires on it and we're all set. Much more backseat room and a much better ride for the long trips. :)

Yea, thats where I missed my trooper, that thing was an excellent family vehicle. Pretty good storage and the back seats reclined which kept the 'are we there yet' choir fairly quiet [along with alot of good book tapes :D ]
My next one is an unlimited unless they come out with something better. Actually my next one *might* be a hybrid, depends....

I'm lookin to get a 2 dr XJ or some other suitable replacement whenever we find a buyer for her truck and a vehicle I like at a decent price and give her the current Cherokee. Mine is still stock so height isn't a matter and the kids gonna be fairly small for a while, so we're not worried about the back seat space

When I put my step-rails on, it took about 0.0003 seconds for my kids to realize they helped make it that much easier to climb straight to the roof...
