i was just wondering if anyone knows how to take off the stock shifter handle and put a new one on there?

On a manual, I believe it it just screws off. I am guessing you are talking an auto though. Just honker down and yank it off. Don't be afraid, it will pop off with a good yank.

I just put a shifter from a 2001 cherokee limited into my 96, and it feels so much better, and in my opinion, even better than a ZJ shifter.

Mine always comes off when the adrenaline get flowing a bit too much on the trail and I am in tight spot. Sure is fun trying to stuff the handle back on when you least want to be distracted.
