However, you'll find them in some 1987 XJs, although 1988 and 98 are rumored. I hear it all the time on NAXJA (do a search) that D44s are 87-89 but haven't heard of anyone that actually found an 88 or 89. On MJs, I believe they really are 87-89, usually under the "Metric Tonne" Comanches.

Many long bed MJ's have a D44, but you just have to look at each one. I've also heard that '87-'89 XJ's can have a D44, but I've only ever seen them in an '87. Here in CA, every '87 that I've ever seen had a D44.

I might be wrong but so far all the two door XJ from 87 and 88 have had D44. But don't let the D44 be the only swap in axle there are others like the Ford 9 and 8.8. There are alot of folks here that have a 8.8 and love it.

87 is a pretty sure bet.. and i have seen an 88 XJ with one only once...

I've had best luck with 87 XJ's.
