Crimping Dust Boot Clamp

I am getting ready to change out the U-joints on my 98 XJ. I have the NP 242 transfer case, type 2 rear drive shaft, so I have the dust boot on the shaft coming out of Xfer case. The FSM says in the reinstall to crimp the clamp with the Crimping Dust Boot Clamp (SPECIAL TOOL C-4975–A). Anyone have experience on this. Can I clamp with pliers or how should I go about crimping. Thanks!!!
