AC Question

How hard is it to replace the evaporator on a 97' XJ? Or should i take it to the dealership (ouch). Thanks

It's a PITA. You must:
1. drain cooling system, and disconnect heater hoses
2. discharge AC system and disconnect evaporator hoses
3. drop steering column
4. remove console
5. tip entire instrument panel away from firewall, and working through that space, remove heater/AC box
6. remove evap. from heater/AC box
7. reassemble in reverse order

If you have an FSM, and the time/patience, you will save a TON of money. (You will still need to recharge the AC when done, unless you have your own stuff to do that.) If you opt to let the pros do it, prepare for a pretty steep bill. Ya gotta pay somebody to deal with this hassle :bawl:

Thanks.... I was expecting to not be able to do it. Oh well... time to call the bank and increase credit limit on the Visa..
