i swapped out gauges from a 01 into my 99. everything seems to work fine, not even the problem of low washer fluid and security light. the thing is my check engine light was on sometime before, it was acting up a bit idling a little rough. once i swapped the gauges hte light was off but i did not really take it into consideratoin until now that it was probably the gauges not being the same making it go away. anyone else now anything about htis.

It might be coincidence.

If a problem that sets the light gets fixed (or just goes away), the computer clears the code itself after something like 5 complete start-run-stop cycles. Your light may have fixed itself.

With the key off, hold down the trip odometer reset button and cycle the key on. Release the button and the cluster will go into self test mode. All of the needles will swing, the odometer will go through all of the numbers, and the lights will all come on. Make sure all of the lights come on at that time. If you see the check engine light come on, it works in the cluster.

Now you need to make sure the computer will turn on the light. Disconnect the throttle position sensor and start the engine. The light should stay on steady.
