I have a 91 Cherokee and I think it is the AW4 tranny. anyways you start the car and put it in gear, when you put it in gear the revs up but it doesnt go anywhere. The people I bought it from said the were driving it in 4 wheel drive and they went home and parked it, came out the next day and it did this. I am in the process of checking the electrical side of it, is the tcu the box on the back of the panel that runs the whole length of the dash, like the kneebar sorta thing.

That box wouldn't be yellow would it.

It is the silver box on the passenger side! Is that the tcu or the ecu, and where is the tcu located?

I believe that is the ECU. Does it say anything on it. Is the t-case fully in gear?

I can shift through all the 4 wheel drive gears and still does nothing. The people I have talked to seem to think it is electrical, but i am trying to check to see if anyone else has had this problem!

Perhaps someone else can chime in on this but it seems weird that this happened after it was in 4wd. This year had a vacuum disconnect axle that i believe was directlly related to tranny shifting. Im thinking this may have something to do with it. It could be TCU related but i hate to say for sure....Perhaps someone else can shed some light on this. :read:

Here's something to ponder. Even though you shifted through all the 4wd modes on the lever, are you sure the linkage isn't busted? Do you feel it shifting or is somewhat moving loosely? Look underneath how the linkage looks. Cause maybe you're just in neutral on the tcase.

I have been under the car and checked all the linkage butmaybe the transfer caseis just stuck in neutral. When you put the car in gear it will roll if its on a hill like its in neutral!

The very first thing I check when I have trouble with my AW4 is the tranny fluid level.
