1 and 2 gear shift selector.

Alright, Ive never been able to really figure out the 1-2 range on my93 or 95. If its put in 1-2 before take off it seems to use both gears. If you down shift at 30 mph from 3rd it will drop into 2nd then at 25 mph slam into 1st sometimes. It seems to have a mind of its own and nothing consistent. anyone ever modify so it will stay in 1st for engine braking down steep hills loaded. A recent trip had my brakes smokin tryin to slow down.

There are numerous articles on how to do this -- several versions of it. Be aware that not all versions work with all years of the XJ, so run a search, print out the articles you find, then compare them with the wiring diagram for your year XJ tio decide which one you want to try.
