RFC = Request For Comments, for the less geeky :)
Anyway, I wanted to put forward a motion for forming an LA-area Meet & Greet. I do realise that I'm new blood around here, and by no means intend this to challenge any of the existing meetings - but Fullerton and Ontario aren't really handy to get to from LA, and I'm not sure if the Van Nuys meetings are still going on.
If there's sufficient interest, I'll scout a workable location and we can figure out a day and time later. Please note that one thing I'd like to make clear from the start is that if this does go ahead, we'd like to see folks from the other meets come up and join us whenever possible - and we'd like to be able to hang out with you guys, too.
Please give feedback - this is something I'd like to see happen, or at least be pointed in the right direction for if it's already going on.

Wow.. just reading this thread and seeing cities like Van Nuys, Santa Monica and the Valley brings back warm memories... I was born in Ventura and grew up in the San Fernando Valley but now reside in Connecticut (North Atlantic).
Just wanted to send a quick "Hello" from an ex-calif person who misses hanging out Saturday mornings at Venus Beach.
Rock Crawling is pretty kool on the East Coast. If any of you ever get out here, make sure to drop me a line. I can show you some good trails while reminiscing about my old homestead...
Best,
Marty

Hey folks. Sorry for not replying sooner, but real life issues are interfering. Anyway, onwards.
Seems like we've got some interest here in a meet somewhere that's mutually-inaccessible to everyone ;) So far, the SFV seems to have the greatest presence, and I live in Pasadena - but Santa Monica's piped up, and we've also heard from Westminster. Let's start throwing out suggestions for locations.
I'll pitch Downtown as a suggestion - the exact spot can be worked out later, but let's just stick with rough geographical areas for now. Ideas for other locations welcomed...

Don't worry about little ol' me. I work in Canoga Park, so depending as to what time and which day (Mon and Wed are out for me) I should be able to make it to anything along 405 or 5 between the valley and OC .

I make my own sked, so anytime (most), anywhere (within reason).

I could be up for attending if it was on a night I didn't work, and if it's not too far into the valley. If it became somewhat regular I couldn't but it would be nice to do it every now and then. We Bakersfield folks are too far away to participate much in the SoCal activities, and we're way too far away for the NorCal stuff, but I'd cruise down for an evening if it made sense.
How about Santa Clarita?
:D

Let's compromise: Bob's Big Boy (http://www.bobs.net/) in Burbank next Wednesday (Sept. 29th) at 7.30pm. This is a starter location, so motions to hold the M&G elsewhere can be aired there. Does this work for everyone?

I still like the idea of the Redondo Pier..but I'm just being selfish ;)
I probably won't be able to make it this time, I'll be rolling out to Moab that next Friday so I'm going to need all the prep time I can get.

I'm w/ Shannon on the weekend M&G. I say we do one up at Big Bear at a good restaurant up there and then hit a trail after. Possibly make it a moderate trail like Gold Mtn. then some of the less modded or stock XJ's can come too.

Well in that case... there is one :) It's called the trail cleanup (http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33687) (wish I could make it :( )

Yeah, thanks for reminding me. My Other club is going up White Mtn into Fawnskin then on to Holcomb Creek on Saturday and I will be missing it due to my son's 1st Baseball game for his Fall ball league. I thought about going up on Sunday to wheel, but I would feel weird going to wheel having not helped out w/ the trail cleanup. Anyhow, There will be other opportunities. I sure miss Big bear, have not been out wheeling since the Camp Jeep event I worked, and you could hardly call that Wheeling! Ugh!

JJ, you best get your butt back out on the trail with us and see if you even remember how to wheel. Just cause you are posting on other sites dont mean we are not still keeping an eye on you. We have to keep a close eye on JJ or he gets out of control. Later...Clint

Anyone else going to the Off Road expo at the Pomona fairgrounds on Oct. 9th? How about a M&G afterward at a nearby restaurant?
Also, the Weekend in the AV M&G sounds good, but my weekends are booked until at least Nov.

OK, apologies for not getting to this sooner - my time's been real tight lately.
Bob's Big Boy (http://www.bobs.net/) in Burbank, tomorrow (Weds. 09/29), 7.30pm. I know it's not convenient for everyone to get there from where they live or work (I know it sure isn't for me) but it's a landmark we can all find. If it's a major problem for most folks, we can figure out a new location once we're there.
Hope to see y'all there, or at least as many as can make it...

Okay, so, slightly delayed, but here's the wrapup...
Got there at bang on 7.30. Parked under the canopy out back that they use for the car hop service at weekends. Grabbed a burger. Ate it, it was pretty tasty. Watched a couple of XJs roll through the parking lot, but they didn't stop. Cute chick bummed a cigarette from me. Listened to the radio. Looked at a nicely-prepped KJ (talked to the owner; gotta give him credit for actually wheeling it). 8.30-ish hit and so I headed out.
So, let's try this again with more advance warning this time. I know Burbank is not exactly convenient for most people, but then again most places aren't anyway. It would be good to hold one meeting where we can all get together and figure out where to go from there, though.
So here's my proposal: the third Wednesday in October (the 20th)at Papoo's Hot Dog Show, 4300 W. Riverside Drive, Burbank. This is actually directly across the street from Bob's, but doesn't have the same volume of business. Their hot dogs, however, are pretty killer and there's more parking available - this makes it easier to find us.
Now, with that, who's on?

Hmmm.....A KJ that Wheels?! Wonder who that coulda been? What color, any other distinguishing markings?
