I have a 1990 cherokee with 4.5" of lift and 31" MT's and plan to go to 32's or 33's and need your help. I have $250 and tomarrow am going to buy either a lockrite locker for the rear dana 35 or a set of Kevins Rock Sliders... www.kevinsoffroad.com I am wondering which you guys think I should go with first. I wont be doing anything to crazy for about 4 weeks but will be doing some moderate stuff till I get paid twice again, then I will get the second, which ever it may be.

TIA,

Tom

personally, I would get the sliders and save the $ to get a 44, then get the locker and some 4.56s, then go 33s.

But, thats just me...:D

I was wanting to get the rear locker for the mean time, I mean at least a year mean time, and then later on sell the locker and get the super 35 kit or do the dana 44. In my boots, I have a ton of trips I want to go on this fall, winter and spring here in Arizona and want a locker for that time. Im thinking I will get the locker and then in about 4 weeks or so i will get the sliders. I still want to do the rock krawler long arm upgrade on it in the future, some day...

The choice is your's my friend, I just can never see throwing $ at the 35...especially the super 35 kit...

I guess AZ is a lil different than CO, many of the trails you NEED rockrails...mine have saved my open butt alot..(holy crap that sounded wrong.... :roflmao: I mean open diffed butt...) :roflmao:

My choice would be rockers, but I wouldn't go with Kevin's. His sliders no longer attach to the pinch seam like they used to. He claims its still strong but I didn't want them without the pinch seam so I went with Rocky Road Outfitters. They may still be great but thats my 2 cents.

Armor that sucker up before you do anything else.

You'll thank yourself later.

Armor, then traction.
You'll need the armor the instant your new-found ability to go places puts you into a tough spot.

Building up a 35 isn't necessarily a bad option, so long as you match the tire sizes, gears, etc carefully to the type of terrain you drive and your style of driving.

If you like the gas, go beefier. An 8.25 would be a good second option if a 44 isn't handy. They're almost as strong. (I know, I have one... :) )

Protect yourself first..then get the gear (locker) that puts ya in places that protection is needed. But another thought..if, as was noted, you're a paycheck away from poverty, where 250 bucks makes that much of a difference..I'd ride along with a buddy, prove yourself useful on the trail and earn some wrenching favors..and go with sliders that are matched up with the pinch seam. Mine weren't cheap..but damn if they haven't kept me from folding the silly jeep in half a few times. Dental work, now..that's another matter..guess that's where they got Rock, Rattle and Roll from... For moderate trails, the 35's aren' that bad, but do keep an eye out for alternatives..if you get the rock crawlin' bug...you'll be upgrading. :pig:

$250 is $250! Whether you have it or not, why spend it twice? Get the armor to protect what you have that's worth keeping. Any money that you put into the 35 is going to have to be spent again, just to end up where you started. This hobby can get expensive enough without spending twice for your mods. I picked up my d44 for what it would have ran me for a drop in locker. It may still be sitting in the garage for now, but by the time ( I hope ) I kill my open d35, I'll have a geared and locked replacment ready to go in. Besides that there is a bit of finesse that can be taught running open.

That's my 2500 cents.

I agree with getting rockers first. Protect the rig first, then go for traction.

rockers first, and if you really want a locker, throw one in the front(if you dont already) chances are you will be keeping it longer than the 35

Why buy a brand new lockright for a dana 35 I see them being sold for 50-75 bucks all the time people try to drop dana 35s like a bad habit if your patient you can get both for 250 and still have some money left.

I was debating on paying off my jeep earlier or Kevin's Sliderz. I'll be hopefully purchasing them next week (pending my oxygen sensors). Protection is a must for the uni-body.
