View Full Version : Dream Overhaul

OK!

You've all had time to see the show "Overhaul" where they take someone's lunker and turn it into their dream ride. Granted it's usually some two-bit washed up celebrity, and granted they usually just pimp it and rice it, but...

...assuming that they could read your mind...

...what would they do to it?

This is, of course, a thinly disguised noobie attempt to get y'all to tell me what I should do to my rig. But, for this thread, don't worry what rig I have or what kind of wheelin' I want to do. The question is: If you were the subject of this show, what would bring a tear of joy to your eye when the host pulls the cover off your new rig.

p.s. If you think this thread is a complete and total waste of bandwidth, then tell what they would have to do to your rig to make blow the host away on the spot.

I TIVO that show....I have thought the same thing but you know what, I would rather have them do that to my plan jane 00 Camry then my jeep. If Foose was to paint my jeep I would never drive it off road again....what a waste of a good jeep :puke:

Chrome everywhere. Huge TV screens everywhere. Even mounted on the outside of the tailgate so the drivers behind me could see how cool I am. 26" wheels with low profile tries. 3,000,000 watts of power to the sound system. 18-12" subwoofers. Airbrushed graphic of Tupac on the hood. 2.5L swap and 2wd conversion. Crown air freshener on the dash.

Gas tank skid plate
Transfer case skid
control arm skids
dif skids
skyjacker nitro shocks

I don't know...they're just there when I hit the "Post Reply" button. I knew I would catch H#%% for mentioning that show but the lottery angle had been done before.

Anyway, thanks for the reply. Looks good!!! Of course, I'm stuck with a 2WD XJ and I'm one of those "my wife won't let me.." loosers but I'm looking real hard at a No-Slip in the D35, a new Cat w/ a 2 1/4" high flow CatBack, K&N or comparable filter, a bored-out TB, and maybe a late model intake manifold. I also need new leaf packs and traction bars in the rear.

Thanks again,

I'm bored at work as well. Boat shops this time of year, in Utah where we don't have water, are slow. I've been here for 2 hours and have had 1 customer and 1 phone call. =\

ok if I had money(how ever I get it)
I'm kinda new to this so I don't know if this will all work together.

4:88 gears
atlas 5.0 t-case
8 inch long arm kit

and maybe a late model intake manifold.

hey just a side note. if you get the late model intake grab the pully that is supposed to be on the new one. I don't know if there is a write up on this site any where, i am sure there is... but I am new here.. anyway I know you need the new pully and a longer belt if you do that swap...(less modification then making it work w/o the idler... (I made the mistake of not checking forums before I tried mine...)

Hey, thanks for that heads-up. I've got a lot more research to do myself, but I like the idea of the larger volume and smoother air flow with the late model manifold. I see that I forgot a TB spacer in my list. Also, the whole trackbar issue bothers me a bit. I'd rather have a front end that didn't rely on a trackbar for centering but the rear end sag is more of a problem right now.

My dream, after aquiring a 4WD XJ, is a best of both worlds compromise between crawling and X-country speed. It should be able to handle 80-90% of what a dedicated rock crawler can do, But also maintain decent ralley and rough country speed. I haven't done enough research to provide a detailed parts list, but that's why I started this - so I can steal ideas from y'all :wave1:

Thanks,
XJ Dreamin'

My dream is to put an end to my dd/offroader nonsense. I would retun the xj to stock height bolt on some 31's put the d30/35 back under it and dd it. Then I would buy a tubing bender and build a buggy with the good junk.
My xj now is basically where I wanted it to be, instead of dreaming about what mods to make I just find a way to accomplish it. Twin sticks are in my immediate future. :D
That warrior project is a joke too. but I'm not going to start an xjguy thread

9-10" long arm kit. Have Full Traction or Clayton fab me up one.

F/R 404 portal axles, with 40" MTR's.

Full cage inside, front and rear Exo on the outside.

Custom folding front windshield, custom lifting/removable hatch glass, and custom opening, removable rear quarter glass.

Then all the other basics like a snorkle, body armor, skids, front and rear winches, front and rear bumpers, ect......

my dream jeep: the one I own, but strait body pannels,
fiberglass front fenders,
4.7 stroker (instead of the 206K mile stocker),
an atlas 4.3 (instead of the modified stocker)
after the atlas I'm debating on going to 4.56 gears over the 4.88's that are there now. to get some of the mileage back.
install a sunroof,
add a "b" pillar hoop to the cage
tv's in the head rests
leather seats
97 or newer front doors to loose that stupid vent window
and an aluminum tool box type lid to cover the "bed"
currie anti rock
aloy 35 spline rear axle shafts
adjustable pro comp gas charged shocks (if they don't suck)
and last but not least another good paint job for the finishing touch.

current equipment includes:
RC 44 front w/ ARB & 4.88's full width, warn aloy shafts, CTM joints
9" rear w/ ARB & 4.88's full width, disk breaks, and shaved for clearance
custom 6" long arm suspension
custom tierods / draglink / track bar
106" wheelbase
cracked bankes header, 2.5" exhaust including a high flo cat, and 70 series flow master
K&N cone filter,
anraid tb spacer
york air compressor
ready welder
custom front and rear bumpers, front with 8000m warn winch
stinger dry cell battery
hydraulic ram assisted steering
custom rock sliders
rear axle traction bar
curry t-case fixed output conversion
spair front and rear drivelines
37x12.5x17 goodyear mt/r's
american racing 17x8 wheels with 5.5" backspacing
25 gallon stainless fuel tank, custom made
and the back end has been chopped up to look like a 4 door commanche, with a very short bed, almost enough for a 37" spair tire.

So is paragon the only place for you to go wheeling that's any good? I didn't do much wheeling when I lived in PA. We just went mudding, no rock krawling to speak of. Yeah, I was working on getting my jeep back together and had similar problems but with Rockkrawler instead of RE. I had mind in peices for a whole month just trying to get my lift on. I was ****ed.

What about Rausch Creek? There's a rock garden there that rumor has it a glacier melted a few years back leaving thousands of rocks in a shape of a GIANT football field. I would say for a good 10-20 feet down are solid rocks, and in certain areas you can hear a stream if all the Jeepers are quiet. No one has had a rig when I've been there that attempts it. Honestly, I don't think a buggy on 44s could get through (reasons to build one....hmmm).

Yeah you got Rausch Creek, and paragon, and there are a few other smaller ones... AND dude is right about the rock garden My jeep is a no go there! But the truth is both of these places are over 3 hours from my house. and I can't go up there every time i want to wheel..(good thing My family and my bro-inlaw have alot of land of our own for hunting :shhh: )

The other thing is i put about 5k Mi a month on my rig... So major props to anyone who does that with a 'buggy with 44's' My dream rig goes every where i want it to :yelclap:

Yeah I have not had my Xj for over a month. I was rear ended in july and that prompted the 4.5 RE and the half a doz other things that I am doing to it now. but it's been down for the count since the last week of july. But tonight i welded the last piece of flooring in to place. So tomorrow i put the finishings on the floor and start coating and waiting for U-bolts...:tear:
