help with dumb problems

1996 xj 4.0 aw4 4wd 110k

recently I have noticed when my transmission shifts from 1st to second it hesitates a bit just at the beginning of second gear. Next question- My cruise control only works when it wants to...any ideas ALL HELP APPRECIATED

too many things can affect the cruise. i would check the adjustment of the brake light switch first, many times even when the brake lights do work the cruise wont beacuse the the pcm thinks the brakes are applied even when they arent, the scan tool is the real best way to diagnose though, it can tell exactly whats keeping the system from engaging.
