View Full Version : Badlands - 9/11
I don't know if I should post here or the un-official events forum.
Anyways...........
Same same stuff we ran last time, gotta test out my new gears and lockers and see if Brad's bumper can hold up to my abuse. :D
Let's not make this Carnagefest version 2.0. Hopefully that Rubicon won't hold us up again.
I'm gonna just go for the day.
My nephew's first football games of the season are on 9/12, I can't miss those.

Hey guys, I just got my red letters, YEA.
Well i will say i will go as of right now. I was just at the badlands this last weekend, camped at summers and got completly soaked that saturday night in the tent. If more people say they will go i will definately be there.
Taylor
I'll be up there Saturday the 11th. Doing some tuning on my rear leaf pack ... it'll be a good time to see how they're doing.
I gotta see Paula run those lockers ... and kick that Rubi's ass :D

Still up in the air about travelling to wheel this weekend.
Trackbar bolt seized in JJ sleeve and Currie 'have never seen this happen before', so I am out $50 in parts on a 1.5 month old Trackbar.
Normally, I love dealing with Currie, but I got nothing but assholes on the phone yesterday.
In short, if they haven't seen it, then it didn't happen the way I said it did.

Alright, the XJ is not gonna make it...
The guy who was doing my gears this week had to re-schedule for next week, death in the family.
And since it's not gonna be re-geared and locked, for this weekend, I'm gonna hold off re-installing the "quick-release" rock rail until next week when Swap is going to come out and help Rory with it. I'd rather see it go on correctly rather than rigging it for the weekend.
BUT, we are still going!! I will be riding shotty with Rory... he really should let me wheel that Rubi. :roflmao:
I don't think we're gonna camp... I haven't told him about the night wheeling-garbage picker thing yet, though. He may wanna do that and camp... night wheeling at the Badlands sounds kinda cool. I think he'll disagree when I tell him we have to fill his purty Rubi with trash in order to do so.

Okay, here's my deal... I wheeled the wife's XJ last weekend while she was away, and dented all 4 doors... I washed it, and she didn't even notice. She's away yet again, so I'm up for an instant replay. I'll be camping at Summers Friday & Saturday nights. I do not plan on cleaning up the dump, I only do that on public parkland. In private parks, I will exchange trail clearing services for free admission at a later date.
he really should let me wheel that Rubi
Yea, Thats what I'd do!
Paula, if you are gonna drag your OT1 friends over here, make sure they get a note from thier mother.
Hey Lawn cher', If you are who I think you are I cant believe your wife did not notice all the dents.

Gang, Jay here was driving one of the Liberties that we ran into on the extreme downhill at Carnagefest where Paula tore off her rock rail, just to put things into perspective. I ran into him at the Land of Lincoln event last weekend and showed him what XJs can do. :moon:
Jay, can't wait to see what you picked up.

It was a very good time. Outside of Brad's door, or Rob's door moulding, or Rory's brake line, there was very little carnage this time. Keep in mind the point of the run was not to get in for free, it was to help clean up the park.
Was not aware the Badlands was not "real" wheeling... Well, I can kind of see that point of view, I mean "real" wheeling is done with the tires on the gorund...

I know people on blue box mac and cheese lifestyles that can get to MOAB with in 5 YEARS!
Id rather go on a few choice trips a year and have memories that last a lifetime, wheel on real trails and obstacles, than sit in Attica looking at the landfill every weekend....guess thats me though.
Nice try, go back over to GLJT with your free pass and Attica night run stories maybe some noobs will be impressed.....cuz im not :looser:

Exactly, I am not onthat lifestyle... it is more important for me to enjoy the rest ofmylife right now then it is to go to Moab. Tellico or Paragon may be inthenear future pending a tow rig.
The point of wheeling is not to get your picture in the magazines, it isnot to out do the other guy, it is not to be the hardest of the hardcore... If anyof that is why you are wheeling then I feel sorry for you. If you feel like your wheeling out does the other guys then youjust don't get it. Some guy dragging a stock TJ he has had out twice over green trail is just as much a wheeler as you on your 3rd trip to Moab, possibly more, if the attitude is right. It is a state of mind or an attitude that make a perosn a good, not their rig or where they wheel.
The whole idea of wheeling is to have fun, help others, be yourself and enjoy your rig and your friends on the trail. I do that every time I make a trip to The Cliffs or The Badlands.

My rig is my DD and how I get to work to make my ends.
1992 Xj w/ 165K on the clock, rust and more rust, drives like a tractor.
Been driven to Moab, wheeled, wheeled hard, driven back twice..... your point? Its not a money issue. There was no tow rig involved? Just me, a used and abused XJ, sleeping bag and some change in my pocket.
Memories that will last a lifetime.............
Pictures that tell the tale that I was there............
Meeting new and exciting people from all over the world.....
Sitting on top of Gemini Bridges at 3am w/a full moon, yep priceless..............If you've never been, you can not understand!

A 92 with only 165K is like a new ride compared to my Jeep. Driving a vehicle only slightly over 10 years old across the country is no big feat. My poor little CJ is almost 25 years old, has at least 200K on it's motor, a soft top that rarely stays closed up and a list of issues longer then my arm. I woudl be pleased if it drove as good as a tractor... or if it rode as good as one.
Driving a rig like yours out to moab, while not a dream road trip, really is not to big of a deal. Not all Jeeps, even mostly stock ones are somehting you can make a drivce like that with. If I had a Jeep like that I would be much more likely to make a trip like that.
no one is sayign the memories or experiances are not priceless. I woudl love to be abel to go but right now it is not in the cards... ;like I said, I would rather wheel all the itme then take one trip a year, ther eis no fun in the waiting for me and as great as it must be I can not imagine one trip to Moab making up for a year of no wheeling.
Of course what does any of this have to do with the topic of the thread other then you trying to show how cool you are?

I thought the advantage to a private park was that they took care of the maintenance. That is why they charge a fee. You pay cover charge and they provide good trails to wheel on. Next thing you know you'll have to scrub the toilets and pay $20 to wheel there.
I think badlands is a fun place to wheel , but I feel that it is ran like crap.
I have had as much fun at state parks for a small fee if any. Try LBL (turkey bay) in Kentucky, nearby real cheep and tons of fun....
, I mean "real" wheeling is done with the tires on the gorund...
Beezil @ Badlands (http://www.myxj.net/trail/NAXJA_Winterfest_2004_2/photos/DSC00038.JPG)
ha! ha! look at you struggling for material duggie!
you wouldn't have the BALLS to run purgatory, WITHOUT going around the offcamber boulders that are really part of that trail, or expert trail for that matter, just like you wouldn't have the balls to stand before me and run your mouth.
stick to things you can handle.....like green and orange trail,
ther eis no fun in the waiting for me and as great as it must be I can not imagine one trip to Moab making up for a year of no wheeling.
I haven't been wheeling for very long, I've never been to the Bandlands, but I've spent a week in Moab. I didn't wheel every day that week (hiked a few days), but I can honestly say, hands down, that I would rather wheel once a year in Moab then wheel often in the Midwest.
dug is afraid of moab, since everything there is much more difficult than silly orange trail.
Don't let this get out of hand.
Only warning.

Hell no, I didn't pick up trash!
In fact, I brought my own trash and LITTERED!!! Everywhere! Most of the junk you picked up was probably shit I cleaned out from my garage and basement the night before. My garbage man won't take old batteries and stuff, they say I have to recycle them, f-that! I just dumped them in that ratty old golf cart and someone else picked em up. Suckas!!!
hmmm.... I must have missed the free dinner invite.

you all are talking about wheeling and the trash pickup and wheres better to wheel...
Well, I participated in the Badlands Trash Pickup and it wasn't that bad. I actually had a lot of fun doing it. We got to wheel the whole day for free and all we had to do was pick up some trash. Also we then got to wheel at night for free. Also it was not mandatory so if you dont like to help out, so be it, dont, but you dont have to talk crap about it. Also a number of my buddies have gone to moab AND been in magazines, but i still see them right next to me at the Badlands. I always thought wheeling was about a bunch of guys...and girls going out and having a good time. not about who can out wheel who, whos got the better rig, or stuff like that. also DBXJ, you say you havent wheeled out here. so dont talk trash about it. Wheel atleast once out here then i will be fine with you talkin about it. Stuff like this is what makes wheeling bad.

Where is "out here"? Wherever that is, I don't think I was talking trash about anything.

Hey PHUNK we do appreciate all that hard work did getting that battery so close to golf cart and all. Granted this is a private pay to enter park but we all got compinsated for a little bit of work, that we volunteered for. If you were not up to it thats fine.
Beezil what is with the threats he was just trying to convey a point, granted you have more rig than alot of us, so you go enjoy Pergatory and we'll watch and run orange so we dont hold you up.

What is this... Dug-speak?
BOTH of you need to
A. learn how to form a coherent sentence,
B. learn how to use proper English,
C. learn how to use www.dictionary.com, and
D. learn how to punctuate.
We can try finishing this converstion once you have accomplished that.
For crying out loud, reread what you spew before you hit the submit button. Are you in third grade? You sound so un-intelligent and people don't take you seriously.

All you all crack me up ... you need more conflict in your lives.
Badlands is a good place to learn. It has enough challenges that one can develop some skill. I've always had fun there ... and much of it has been because of the people I've been with.
Moab is, for a lot of people, the ultimate place to wheel (as I've heard ... not been there YET).
IMO ... to be good ... one needs diversification. Run as many different places as you can. Learn slowly, and don't bite off more than your ready to chew.
Most importantly, have fun.

Bagging on Phunk and BJ for having fun with people on the forums will get you nowhere fast.
The 'I will stay on Orange so I don't hold you up' crap bothers me.
I guess we can assume you wont be attending any of the Badlands runs anymore due the lack of ability of these trails to challenge your rig, oh well such is life.
Thanx Digger
Who is the 'we' that you are speaking of?

Why would that bother you, I'm just stating that I don't have the rig to go on Purgatory so I will just stay on Green and Orange. What is the problem with that statement? I also don't think I was Bagging on Phunk, I was just having a little fun with her post that said she brought all her crap from her garage and littered the trails just for us.
The we I speak of, is all of the people that did the clean-up.

come awn now, lets be honest, when you said to stay on purgatory, you had yourself a little tone ddn't you?
relax, its fine, I don't mind a "tone" I'll give you points for having "fire"......
New Midwest people do better when they come on out and meet face-to-face.....we're THAT kind of club. We don't tolerate keyboard warriors.
come on out, pull up a mudcovered log to the firering, and go from there.

Everybody knows that if you have been to Moab the badlands seems lame. Since I have not been to Moab, Badlands still seems fine to me. I am sure that once I make the pilgrimage I will come back and be elitest like the rest of you. Maybe I'll even be cool? Nahh... at least I hope not.
I was hoping I would cool after leaving tire tracks in Beezil's living room.

um, fellas and er missus....
Please let me impart these words-o-wisdom, "AT LEAST YOU'VE GOT SOMEWHERE TO GO AND WHEEL!".
The most I've had down here was locking into 4WD HI so I didn't slide off the road during Hurricane Frances. And then there was the time the hood blew open going 80mph because one of the neighborhood crackmonkeys attempted to steal the yellowtop, FUN! Oooh wait, maybe I could get lift blocks and/or hockey pucks and tear up the Everglades a bit more. (It's not like you could eat the fish since the mercury is so high!)
I'll quote my favorite Isaac Hayes song, "... just be thankful for what you've got.", because some of us have much, much less.
...although I guess I haven't missed too much judging by the thread!
miss you all, (especially ridin' shotgun with Sean on Purgatory)
