I was switching out my t-case last night because of an odd popping in 4 wheel drive (clanking, binding, and horrible jumping when turning). Well I disconnected the crossmsmber to lower the drivetain down to access the t-case bolts and hit my head on the cross member (the tranny was support with a floor stand). The damn thing fell on the ground. So after I got the blood out of my eyes (thing is sharp), I noticed that the 4 tranny mount bolts were not bolted into the crossmember. They were just resting in there.

Now I am thinking that the problem wasn't in the actual t-case, but rather b/c the 4 bolts weren't holding the tranny in place. With applied torque in 4 wheel drive, wouldn't the entire drivetrain twist and pull up causing the front driveline to twist and tweak and casue the popping and binding?

The new t-case is in and new nuts are holding the tranny to the cross member and works like a champ. So what do you all think? Binding was caused by the lack of anything holding the tranny in place and when I turned, the torque jsut jacked everything up?

Sounds plausible.
