bolting conferr straight to roof

Instead of using the factory racks or gutters, would it be possible to just bolt the rack through the roof and use large washers to help distribute weight or would this just crush the roof in?

if you do, make some sort of a "Crossmember" or soemthing like that so that if you nail the rack on a rock or a branch gets wedged underneath it and pulls it up (don't ask) you dont rip a hole out in the roof or deform it.

So I can run bolts through the roof and then bolt that to some flat stock between the roof and head liner. Should distribute the weight nicely.

You guys think way too hard. Get some metal nutzerts, use the factory holes or dril some new ones, Bolt two pieces of Sq or Rect Tubing the length wise down the roof line. Attach your Confer to that.
