As discussed previously, it appears that several are interested in a run at Redbird. Since the Land of Lincoln run is next weekend, I figured a Redbird run on September 25 sounds good.

I am really looking forward to this. This will be basically my first major run, which should be a great learning experience. Also, I'm looking forward to meeting and making new friends.

September is shaping up to be a busy one for me, not sure if I can make it. May be able to make a later run though. Redbird is comparable to the Badlands(not as much usable land, yet) with some pretty knarly runs, the place was wheeled at for years before the state took it over. Alot of mud, off cambers, and so on. I can't remember the name of the Jeep club that helped the state get it going, but they seemed like a great group when I met them.

I'm in.

Let's hope that nothing else happens like the last Badlands Run.

Might bring a TJ or 2 along if possible.

I'll be there too ...

Great to see you're making it up John. I've not see your rig since you've made your axle swap. Just make sure you tighten the lugs :D

Thanks Les,

Hopefully the Jeep Gods smile on me that weekend, because I've had shit luck this year. :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

Is there camping involved? Maybe an overnight?

LBEXJ

I'm not sure if I am ... not made those kinds of plans yet ... but will if there if several are wanting to. Lawn Cher asked about camping, so I'd guess he's in for it. I'll check the web site and see if there is any camping close ... will let you know.

We ran Redbird last weekend, great time. Check out the other redbird post in this forum for more info.

We camped here: www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/parks/shakamak.html , really cool State park. They've got a really nice pool with a waterslide. Reservations can be made online. It's only about 8 miles from Redbird, 54 east to 59 south to 48 west to Redbird. Wish I could make it.

I might be able to make it with 2 other jeeps besides mine. I will post for shure.

Hey HEX-J thats my club your talking about, 4WTF( 4 wheels to freedom) we have got at least a dozen clean up days involved in Redbird in a 3 year period, but i think it will be worth it. Bad part about Redbird is the locals are fighting the state real bad because they wheeled there for a decade for free now they have to pay and follow actual rules . One of the first weekends it was officially opened some one burned down the main bathroom.
The place is a BLAST so enjoy and let us know what you think or what can be improved on. Digger

Hey guys, have you seen the redbirdsra.com website. Said it had to close down this week, no insurance. Well looks like this run is down the toilet.

Gee, its only $10 to get in, what the hell are they crying about? Yeah, I heard about the bathrooms getting torched, but that they had caught the punks who did it. You guys did a great job out there, I enjoyed it, as well as everyone who was with me. Keep up the good work, and maybe someday I can make it for a cleanup.

Thanks for bring that to our attention. Did not know that. Seems their Insurance carrier went bankrupt. Hopefully they will have insurance soon ... maybe soon enough we won't have to cancel this run.

Man that sucks Well, they've got 2 weeks to get insurance. If they don't does anyone else have any suggestions, or just wait for the next badlands run?

I will be at McCaslin Mountain (http://www.mccaslinmountain.com) with some of the jagbags from ecoyne.com.

Good people, night wheeling, 150 miles of trails, 4 hours from Chicago.
Check the Trail Ride section at the ecoyne site.

How bout Haspen Acres in indiana? Rockport is 380 miles from me. A little far.

Fuel90
09-14-2004, 19:47
I would have to agree about rockport being a little farther than what I want to drive. I wouldn't mind haspin. Much closer.

Lawn Cher'
09-15-2004, 07:49
Well, Haspin is too far for me for a weekend jaunt, but don't plan based on my attendance. This will be a recurring issue due to the large area that our Chapter covers, no big deal in my mind. Realistically, I should probably catch up on work around the house anyway.

Jen finally noticed the dents, and didn't like the noise from the mud tires & the skid plate, so I had to return her XJ to street mode. So, I don't have an operational wheeler for now. I think it'd be prudent of me to skip this run. Have fun!

  ... and I thought you said she would not even notice them! Did she notice any of the others :shhh:

So ... did she get the paddle out and give you a little hazing?? I guess it's time for a little yard work huh ...

She found them on both sides, but I think only because I didn't wash the truck... they are much more obvious with the dirt in place. I had a hell of a time getting all that dog hair out of the carpet... my shop vac got a good work out. Gotta keep this one pretty, I've got another one to beat on.

Had a great time today at Redbird ... of course I could always do better at map reading. For those who like mud holes ... this place has them even though it was dry. Tight trails with some pretty decent climbs.

Nice meeting you Fuel90 .. and your friend too. Hopefully your wife did not beat you too badly! :wave1:

Glad you guys had fun today....

I ended up finding out what adjustable Cam Bolts were (TJ)...Not fun, but I did get to learn something new...

I WILL get out with the MWC sooner or later...hopefully sooner...I've got withdrawal symptoms.

John ... I was hoping you'd be able to make it up today ... sorry it did not work out for you. We were the only two trucks today. This was nice for us though ... we shared the whole place with one other motorcyle. The trails are a lot like Orange at Badlands, but without all the trash. Guess what ... I did not see the first tire laying along side the trail ;)

I want to thank Les and Aaron for showing me a good time. It was very much fun, aside from a run in with a tree :flamemad:. Thanks again for the spare part too. it definitely helped eased the beating, which really wasn't bad. she was more mad that i was gone longer than i thought i was going to be. i think she is starting to understand how much i like wheeling, and understands the consequences of it. i did mention some new steel tail light housings from AJ, and she just kind of sighed knowing that i was going to get some whether she like it or not.
anyways, i would definitely say i got myself edumacated, and i'm ready for the next run to learn more. I'll have pics up later this week.

btw: just noticed my name is finally in red. looks like i'm officially in naxja, and hopefully accepted by fellow mwc guys.

Better show the sticker, and don't even THINK of showing up for a 'run' without a NAXJA t-shirt, be it through Rev, or otherwise.
At least your name is in RED, so you get a 10% discount at the door.

pics from last weekend are finally up on www.trailmonster.com. this is a new site. the main page says it is still under construction, but everything is functional. there are just a few little things to be finished. anyways, check out the pics in the gallery, look around, and post on the forums of what you think about the site.
